The speaker pads you install on the top keep the speakers from sliding-they are sturdy and don't require additional securing. I'm not sure what other people are talking about when they say it's not sturdy...the speakers don't move at all. My ONLY gripe is what I'd call a design flaw. As others have said, the two main boards don't completely touch each other, therefore, there is a small gap. This gap is not only noticeable when viewing head-on, but it allows for the wires to pop out the front when you feed the wires in the back to hide them. After a little finagling, I got the wires to stay put and not pop out the front, but I'm not sure why it was designed that way. Anyway, great speaker stands for the klipsch r-15pm.
