Christian’s attorney, Paul, who accompanied him on the trip, has gone insane. Paul’s lovely wife turns up dead. And Christian cannot shake the idea that his her is somehow alive. The audience is left dazed and confused, trying to figure out if Christian has gone mad or if others are trying to drive him insane. Or perhaps his her really is alive. The dreamlike quality of the film keeps the observer guessing and there are many plot twists (pay particular attention to the blonde siren) to further perplex and unsettle attentive viewers.
