disorganized but uniquely dense with a remarkable range and amount of information
amazingly dense with more info addressing a wider range of topics than any other wilderness survival book i've encountered, awesome. but it also has some funny stuff resulting from obvious cut & paste, best taken with a grain of salt and cross-referenced with other manuals because it contains curious tidbits like: (regarding beavers) "beavers are not really great engineers because sometimes they get squashed by a tree" or (regarding sharks) "Do not bring your dog into the water as its running and splashing may attract sharks".... uh, OK. But still a fantastic and entertaining book, not wonderfully organized but totally rich with all kinds of information and every page bursting with informative illustrations and diagrams (the cover offers preview of the interior's visual style, has a definite "show don't tell" flavor), leafing through it's pages feels like treasure hunting, a person could spend days exploring everything in here, definitely a unique field guide anyone interested in outdoor preparedness will love, check it out.

ULTIMATE!
They are not kidding when they say ULTIMATE! This book has everything you'd ever want to know about the outdoors! I bought it used. I'm not sure how easy it is to find, which is a shame. It has information about plants to avoid and ones that are okay to eat...it's just full of everything! The same author has other books that are not as detailed, so it just depends on what you're looking for. I'd recommend it!

Outdoor bible
This is my third time buying this book since my first copy when I was 13. It has been my literal mini library for all of my expeditions from three months in the back country of Yukon Canada, white water canoeing where my first copy got soaked over and over and only fell apart when I got home. Then my next brought me sea kayaking four months in the turgid waters along the coast for over 800 miles. It stayed strong and followed me through many smaller trips and winter living in Maine for 7 more years until a fire at my neighbors house spread through the forest and consumed my home, the book with it. So now I am finally getting my little book of everything back and can’t be more excited, my library is complete again. This is the best book for any outdoor question or problem life may throw at you

Virtually a camping encyclopedia.
This book is packed with tons of information on things you didn't know you didn't need to know, and things you do. A lot of this covers winter, which, in my opinion is the most essential thing to cover. In Spring, Summer and even Fall you have things growing and a lot of activity, warmth of the sun. That all changes when the trees don't bloom and water is frozen and warmth is not just a luxury. This book isn't going to save your life by whipping it out when you realize you're lost, BUT brushing up on details from time to time, thumb through random chapters on the John and you might be ok after you finish freaking out. Does this book "have it all"? No, no book ever does, but it does have a lot, and I do mean a lot of information that is beyond incredibly useful for anyone pondering camping in the wilds, or even just hiking/backpacking.Just remember, you can't plan for everything. But with enough knowledge, you won't have to.

Best Outdoor Book Hands Down!
I must say that I've read many outdoor and survival books and I've always tried to find one that really covers almost everything you'd need in a compact handbook that you could take anywhere. Well, it's finally here.Camping and Wilderness Survival is the best book out there as far as information entirety goes. It has everything from gear, to dangerous plants, animals, reptiles, fish, weather patterns, clouds, to wood craft... The list goes on and on. This is the most complete manual ever written to date in my opinion. If I could recommend only one book on the subject or to keep in your pack this is it!The book is also just the right size for keeping in your vehicle, pack or just on the bookshelf. I'm so thrilled with it I'm thinking about buying another to keep on the shelf because I can tell that this one is going to get worn out.

An excellent introduction to wilderness survival
I couldn't make my mind up whether to buy this book or not. Now i'm glad i did. It's an excellent introduction to wilderness survival, camping and travelling in remote places internationally. It has a wealth of illustrations on every page and kept my interest, right through to the end. The information is in brief small sections, but this makes the book more acessible and can be dipped into as time allows. The book is quite thick, being about 2" and is slightly bigger than a paperback. Being aimed at the America market its slightly biased in its information for that readership. I would recommend this book to any outdoors person, being a wonderful addition to any ones library and a great keepsake or gift.

Full of wonderful detailed information, readable and practical. A little heavy reading for it's small size, but still very usable.
