## Description

Product Description Unlock endless possibilities in IoT, prototyping, and embedded projects with the Lonely Binary ESP32-C3 OLED Kit. This comprehensive bundle includes three high-performance ESP32-C3 development boards, each featuring a built-in OLED display for real-time data visualization and debugging. Paired with versatile expansion shields, this kit supports seamless integration of protected LiPo batteries (like 18650 cells) for portable, battery-powered applications. (Battery is not included.) Designed for uninterrupted operation, the LiPo battery functions like a UPS system: when Type-C is connected, the ESP32 draws power from it and charges the battery; if disconnected, the battery instantly takes over without rebooting or interrupting your code. The included shields provide flexible connectivity options: 2.54mm Expansion Shield with dual male/female GPIO pins to eliminate jumper cable mismatchesScrew Terminal Shield ideal for secure, permanent installationsNon-Screw Terminal Shield perfect for quick prototyping with raw cables All shields feature intelligent power management—stepping down battery voltage to a stable 3.3V for the ESP32-C3 while enabling simultaneous charging via USB Type-C. Plus, built-in battery monitor pads allow easy voltage monitoring by simply shorting them, ensuring you always know your power status. Compatible with Arduino IDE, C++, MicroPython, ESP-IDF, and more, this kit is designed for makers, hobbyists, and professionals building smart devices, sensors, or wearables. Whether you're creating a wireless display, battery-powered gadget, or custom prototype, the Lonely Binary ESP32-C3 OLED Kit delivers reliability, versatility, and ease of use in one affordable package. Bullet PointsTriple ESP32-C3 Boards with OLED Displays: Includes 3x compact ESP32-C3 development boards equipped with integrated OLED screens for instant data readout, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth LE connectivity —perfect for IoT prototyping and real-time monitoring.Lipo UPS Power Management: LiPo batteries (not included) act as an instant backup; Type-C powers the board and charges the battery when connected, switching to battery power without reboots or interruptions for continuous operation.Versatile Expansion Shields: Comes with a 2.54mm Expansion Shield featuring dual male/female GPIO pins to avoid jumper cable issues, a Screw Terminal Shield for durable permanent projects, and a Non-Screw Terminal Shield for fast prototyping with direct raw cable connections.Universal LiPo Battery Compatibility: All shields support any protected LiPo battery (e.g., 18650), with automatic 3.3V step-down for powering the ESP32-C3 and built-in charging via USB Type-C for uninterrupted operation.Battery Monitoring Made Simple: Integrated battery monitor pads on every shield—short them to enable real-time voltage tracking on your ESP32-C3, helping you manage power efficiently in portable setups.Ideal for Makers and Developers: Supports frameworks like Arduino, MicroPython, and ESP-IDF; great for wireless sensors, smart displays, or custom electronics—affordable, expandable, and user-friendly for beginners to experts.Package Includes3x Lonely Binary ESP32-C3 Development Boards with OLED Displays1x 2.54mm Expansion Shield with LiPo Battery Port1x Screw Terminal Shield with LiPo Battery Port1x Non-Screw Terminal Shield with LiPo Battery PortNote: LiPo batteries and jumper cables sold separately. Review: Love them - Amazing boards!
Review: Well-designed ESP32-C3 kit - This is a well-made prototyping kit for the ESP32-C3 microcontroller. Included with this kit are three small carrying cases for each module, as well as three module breakout boards (expansion shields) for connecting sensors and relays in different ways. These breakout boards also support an external lithium battery and recharge monitoring. As for the microcontroller assemblies, each unit has a tiny 72X40 monochrome OLED, as well as onboard power and data LEDs. Each ESP32 so far has worked as expected when tested. On one of these assemblies, I did have a display that was not attached neatly, but I was able to gently pull it away and realign it as the OLED screens are affixed via a double-sided adhesive. At the time of this review there was not much online documentation from Lonely Binary for this particular model. They do have some information on a non-OLED variant which includes further details on the pinout. Inside the kit's case is a quick start guide that helped fill in the blanks compared to the non-OLED version for what libraries are needed and what pins are used for the OLED when configuring these in the Arduino IDE. Additionally, there is a programming cheat sheet on the opposite side of the lid for general help on the C programming language. Once the pin-out and libraries are figured out, writing programs for this microcontroller so far is an easy process and overall speed of the ESP32-C3 is good for a microcontroller its size. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are very nice to have in such a small form factor as well. As for things to do with the OLED screens and LEDs included in this kit, there does not appear to be any tutorial projects from Lonely Binary yet. The QR Code included on the QuickStart paper does not lead to a guide at the time of this review, so it should be good to have some experience with microcontrollers and electronics before working with this project. In particular, it would be good practice to use resistors whenever attaching regular LEDs in order to get them to the correct voltages. The QuickStart guide does have information on how to make use of the OLEDs, but nothing on the included LEDs. They are still nice to have however for general debugging. As for the OLED, the QuickStart guide recommends using the software version of the U8G2 library, but I found it works well with the HW variant as well: U8G2_SSD1306_72X40_ER_F_HW_I2C. Overall, I am very happy with these devices, and I think they are a great value.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Powerful, easy to use, amazing little screen, great extras
*by J***. on 12 February 2026*

I love to tinker, always have, always will. When I see interesting new microcontrollers come up, I can't help myself. The impulse that drove me to get these was the little OLED screens on board, which you don't see too often on dev boards this size, and just seeing an OLED that fits this footprint was really cool. I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to display quality, due to the size, but I was blown away, the small example they have loaded on the board when you first power it up is a good example of the clarity of the display and how crisp the whites are and how dark the blacks are. Scaling up to larger fonts and bitmaps makes it really obvious that these little screen are really nice. The included breakout boards were 100% a cherry on top, I got this pack for the dev boards, but I was really curious what I'd get when it came to these as well. Gotta say, they're really dang cool, the first thing you'll like is the different options they provide for connecting wires to the controllers, so you can use multiple connectors without having to get creative with dupont wires. Next, and more importantly, is the entire battery management system on board, you can connect a 3.2v rechargeable battery to it using a JST-PH 2.0 connector it'll automatically run from the battery as long as it can, and recharge it if the USB is plugged in (and run off of the USB in the meantime). Bridging a small jumper on the board will allow you to monitor the battery level using the GPIO 2 pin, letting you keep track of how charged it is. I made a nice little 18650 charger with mine that tells me how far along it is and sends me a notification when it finishes charging. Setting it up in the IDE is simple, using the standard ESP32 C3 board from the board manager and the libraries mentioned in the instructions, you'll be able to start working with the board with no special setup needed. They work great, they're fast, the wifi is decent enough for a tiny board with no external antenna (don't expect a lot!), BLE works really good, and the OLED just looks so dang good, it's hard to believe displays so small can even exist. Lonely Binary also includes a cool random gift in their packages, I got three chunky large yellow LEDs, can't ever have too many LEDs!
