You have to slug through this...
I love the diversity of Richter's work and that he does not do one thing over and over for 50 years like some artists. This book is an exhausting but interesting read. One has to read slowly to take in all the information and theories. Slug through this book and do not sit and just read this. Take your time and you will enjoy it.

Its nice but not awesome
Its a good book if you like collecting the images of the process of the artistic creation but it has tiny images and you cant seem to look at the details, i would love it if it were bigger.

A great gift for the art fan in your life
I bought this gift for my sister who works in the art industry. She says she learned quite a bit about this important contemporary artist which she had not know previously. She recommended this book to those looking to learn more about Richter and enjoy his work.

Gerard Richter: Atlas
Gerard Richter painter and photographer shared his life's work in an assembly of hundreds of pictures. Giving an interesting insight to how an artist collects ideas and produces the work that is seen in galleries. I would have preferred knowing before I bought the book that he included his pornographic work as well as the abstracts, landscapes and portraits.

A great overview of Richter's massive Atlas project.
The scope of the project deserves a deeper study, but this book is a very well made glimpse into Richter's Atlas.

Windows on the worlds
A regimented ordered exploration into inspiration, association and potential for creative exploitation. An admirer of Richter's large format paintings I had often wondered about the sources of inspiration and the visual journey of ideas he possibly took. Leafing through this mammoth volume I was stunned by the huge catalogue of beautiful photography and then the arrangements and links between different subjects that emerge. As a teacher I saw this as an invaluable resource for my students and immediately it inspired! This book should be in every school library. I only wish it came in a large format print.

Photograph of Richter
Not enough discussion on why these were used, technical methodology or relationship in scale to true size of original photographs.
