Campfire Meals Lasagna with Meat Sauce

Out of all the Campfire meals I tried this was the one I was most excited about trying. I generally love lasagna and the ability to take it on the trail with me was quite intriguing. I was only mildly disappointed but only because I was hoping for so much. I was flavored pretty good like lasagna, I found a few of the noodles to be a little stiff, but not crunchy. I was closer to a lasagna soup that actual lasagna, but I guess this is about the best that can be done for re-hydrated food.Net weight of food in package very slightly exceeded advertised weight of 4.02 ounces. There were 67 calories per ounce of food which is very good for these types of meals, wanting higher calories per weight on trail food. There are 70 calories from fat and 14 g of protein also both very good numbers by comparison.Due to my love of lasagna and the reasonably good taste I will be carrying this food again.

The taste is OK. Compared to real lasagna, it is missing the ricotta flavor and has this odd spice I do not like much. I tested it before a trip and felt I could eat it. I carried it and some packets of parmesan to 11,049 feet and found at altitude the taste was much worse. I could only eat the spoonful on which I has put parmesan. The dried meat was odd, the spice was odd. So, I could eat it but it is just OK.

This tastes exactly as you would expect it to taste. Like an MRE version of a jr-highschool cafeteria meal.I like that it has no surprises. It just pretty much is what it says on the bag.

As a backpacker and hiker I have tried my share of freeze-dried meals and I believe this has to be the best tasting meal I have come across! This was a very flavorful lasagna, that was hearty, filling, and perfect on last weekend's winter survival training adventure. Like any freeze-dried meal prep is easy, just boil and add the suggested amount of water, seal the package, and after 10 minutes you're ready to eat.For me this was more a perfectly sized single serving than two as the package states; so, if you are a big eater, or hungry from a long day on the trail, don't expect to share this with another person. From my experience serving size labeling is a common thing with every backpacking meal I've tried. I still wanted to mention it here so you factor that in for your meal planning.

We had these on our deer hunt last weekend and can't say enough about how satisfying and delicious they were. Great quality, excellent taste, and very filling. I love the fact that it was simple to prepare, I poured boiling water into the pouch, let it sit for a few minutes and when I was done eating I threw the pouch and the spoon away with no cleanup. The perfect wilderness meal solution.

**Writing from my wife's account**I grabbed a bunch of these meals to try them out on a Southern Utah adventure and I was pretty stoked on that decision. We got to our first site late and I fired up the Lasagna meal and loved it. Watch out Mtn house, I think you just got served!
