Christmas Stories (Everyman's Library)

Excellent stories, excellent condition. Pleasantly surprised that it arrived 4 or 5 days BEFORE the estimated arival date and this was during the Christmas holiday time!

I ordered this book years ago, and sent it this year to a cousin. Every year 'round this time it comes down off the bookshelf, and re-reading occurs (though I admit I have yet to tackle the Russian story ... it's kind of long).

This is a collection of 20 Christmas stories, by well known authors of classics. My wife got it for her book club. Having read most of the stories, I would advise that although most are interesting, few are likely to leave you with a warm Christmas feeling. Some, in fact, are pretty weird - e.g. Golgol's "The Night Before Christmas" others are tiresome, if a bit amusing, e.g. the stories by Trollope and Waugh.

I love Capote's "A Christmas Memory" so I was willing to pay the price just for that one, but I got a whole set of great stories in the package. This is a handsome hard back, smaller than some of the ostentatious holiday compilations on the market. It is a very nice format. It is a little treasure for me.

This collection has the best short story authors, such as Tolstoy and Capote. I originally bought it because I wanted one particular story and was pleasantly surprised with the rest of the collection. I am giving it as a gift this year.

I already have my copy of this wonderful book. This purchase is a gift.

This book is something different for the holidays. It has stories by many well-known and respected authors, and is very enjoyable.

A very varied collection of stories ranging in time from Charles Dickens to Richard Ford. Some I found I had read before (unsurprisingly) though some I must have read before it was very pleasant to read again. Some are just set at Christmas coincidentally as it were (the Sherlock Holmes story for example), others deal rather more with issues relating to Christmas or with the paraphernalia of Christmas (Father Christmas outfits, trees and so on) or with the spirit or philosophy of Christmas.I didn't enjoy everything (that is the nature of such an anthology, I think), but overall I found it a rewarding collection. I found I specially warmed to the Trollope and Richard Ford (of stories new to me - Richard Ford's Bascombe novels of course deal with other US public holidays), and I enjoyed meeting again particularly the stories of Damon Runyon and Alice Munro.

Good selection of short stories, some by very famous authors. May lead me to other examples of their work

Book was in great condition and a good read. I was looking for something to get me into the Christmas mood and this certainly did it. Contains stories by great authors. Would definitely recommend it.

This is a fine adult collection. This Christmas season, I'll be reading the Capote and Cheever stories to a group of seniors. (I won't be reading them the Alice Munro story which contains one (very appropriate) f-bomb.)
