but it is the perfect size to hide a small treasure
I bought this box as a birthday gift for a friend. The box itself is small, and the compartment inside is even smaller, but it is the perfect size to hide a small treasure. I put a medium-sized pendant necklace inside one of those velvet drawstring bags jewelry often comes in in the box, and it fit snugly. Still, the box itself is absolutely beautiful. It's smooth and feels solid, the patterns line up so you can't tell where the pieces to slide are located. It took me a good ten minutes of playing around to figure out how it works, and a little longer than that to solve it. It's not very complicated once you figure out the steps, but it's still a fun little gift and a nice way to frustrate somebody for 20 minutes or so!The box does come with a small slip of paper that has instructions on it. The instructions consist of a diagram of the box with numbers and arrows telling you which piece to slide and in which direction. There are some small written instructions on the bottom of the paper, but they are in Japanese. So unless you speak Japanese, you have to rely on the picture. It's not overly complicated, but some steps might be slightly unclear at first.

Beautiful box
The exterior of the box is gorgeous--even prettier than the pictures--the craftsmanship on the inlay is lovely. All the geometric patterns line up nicely. Bought to hide a monetary gift, but also to provide a keepsake. The 12 steps to open the box are a little repetitive, but this isn't really a terrible thing if one wants to reuse the box regularly and *not* look at the directions each time.I would like the wood to slide a little more easily, which is why I gave a 4/5 on craftsmanship.

Exquisite
This is meant to be a present for my boyfriend and will contain coupons for trips to his favorite places. I know he will love the possibility of hiding things in this box.The box is absolutely beautiful and delicate, very fine craftsmanship and nice overall quality although I can see why some people get frustrated and break it. You should get it if you like to be nice to your possessions and take care of them.(I must confess that I had to watch a youtube video to solve the last 2 movements because I had never seen a puzzle like this)I will buy it again as a gift to my loved ones.

its a great collectible
The bad first this item is smaller then I thought it would be, which is my own fault I know I could have figured out just how big it was before I bought it, but I am not taking points off for that. If size is a concern of yours you should know to figure it out with the included measurements. Also the puzzle element is not as complex as I thought it would be, the box is some what simple, I thought that it would be more complicated to open it, which I guess is a double edged sword deal. You want it simple enough that you can open it with out wanting to break it open like a piggy bank, but you want it tough enough that people can not just guess how it opens. That being said, the box is supposed to be handled gently any one who tries to force their way into it will most likely ruin you box, which may be more valuable then what your choosing to put into it. That being said its a great item, like all great items its not a simple thing to explain, but i am willing to bet that most people will be happy with their puzzle box if they choose to get one.

Awesome construction and a lot of fun
Bought this for my teenage daughter (for Christmas) so she could store small keepsakes. The detail and construction are amazing - the parts slide well yet fit very tightly. I expect this to last a very long time - mainly become an heirloom for her kids (someday). It holds smallish items like rings, coins, small pictures, necklaces, etc.The instructions are on a very small piece of paper, so I suggest you scan it (if you have a scanner) and store it on your computer in case you lose it.

Highly Recommend!
Bought for my husband as he’s a fan of puzzle boxes and has a growing collection. This is his favorite by far, and is the most impressive piece to his friends and family. This also took him the longest to figure out, and he enjoyed the challenge immensely. It’s a beautifully crafted box with hardly any movement in the pieces, and you can barely see any of the seams, even while looking up close. I’m planning on buying more boxes with more moves to give him a bigger challenge.
