Education Set Collection Kit with Magnifier

I purchased this for my 5yo grandson. He had been impressed with an 8yo boy who had a rock collection and some fossils, and wanted to start his own collections. Fossils and rocks are a natural segue from dinosaurs that all kids love.My grandson starts kindergarten in a few weeks and this is a perfect show and tell feature. There were 2 reasons that I purchased this item. Price. And also because it came in a display box so that you can distinguish the different kinds fossils. Some starter kits just had the fossils thrown in a bag.

This fossil collection is interesting to examine. The information included contains facts about the fossils and the age range of typical samples. Truly staggering to contemplate the age of these things, while holding them in your hand!

It comes with 9 fossils; 7 fossils clearly match up with the identification sheet included. One of the two remaining looks like a fossil of some sort, but is obviously not one of the two remaining unidentifiable specimens. The last one just looks like a piece of gravel from the parking lot.

Three of the nine fossils were so indiscriminately shaped that it was impossible to tell what they were. I returned it.

This is a great kit. My daughter used it for her science fair project and loved talking about each of the samples.

My kindergartners had a blast unearthing the fossil kits I bought. They broke into teams of 6 for each fossil kit and it took them 3 sessions to complete. It was a little difficult for their age group to assemble without help but we got them all put together.

Very nice set of fossils for the money; good variety of different ones. The magnifying glass is a nice addition.
