Great, quality camera at a very low price!
I got the Foscam R4 because I love the Foscam R2 that I purchased before. The R4 has a few new upgrades, but is just as super easy to set up as the R2. Nothing easier than scanning a sticker and you are set up. I like the ability to zoom in and the enhanced resolution for the camera is nice for a detailed look. The IR feature was enhanced as well which helps at night since my house is completely dark. Just like the R2, the R4 can do the cloud storage and Micro SD card. Nothing really new about that, but the fact that they didn't change anything is great since the SD card is easy to install and to pull any footage out that you may need. The Foscam app allowed me to set the tolerance level for motion and sound alarms which is nice too as I don't want notifications for every single noise or movement that goes on (I have three dogs). I now have two of these Foscams at my house and it gives me a sense of security knowing I can monitor my house without being there. The R4 is compact, easy to use, and very inexpensive. I honestly can't believe the great quality considering how little it costs. I would recommend the R4 Foscam for anyone who would like an easy to set up, QUALITY, camera for their home or office.

Great picture and quality
Very easy to hookup and has a excellent picture. Very happy with this purchase. Work's great if you have to use a 5g router. This was the only reason i got it. Was to replace a older one that could not pair up to the new router. Update - 1/2021. The camera stopped working a few months back. Keep letting me know thee was a update needed. Never could get the update to take, always failed. The web sight was no help. wanted you do download to a zip file, etc then do a micro sd card, etc. UGH. finally figured out to hard wire it up to my router and then after it paired up used the app on my phone for the software update. BINGO it worked like it should. Magic

Decent camera - we like that it has FTP.
The camera so far is working well. It would be nice if it had color night vision, but the clarity is good. The ability to do FTP of files to our remote server is a huge plus, and most indoor wifi cameras don't have this feature. It is one of the main reasons we bought the camera. It's also nice that it can use the 5Ghz band in addition to the 2.4. Set up was pretty easy - we had to do an override by using the VMS computer application to use 'admin' as a user name because the phone app won't allow it. Also it is strange they only allow 12 characters for a password, which is incredibly short. All in all it is working well for us so far.

Inexpensive feature-rich cameras with A1 support.
I have been a big fan of Foscam cameras for many years and own a variety of their pan/tilt, pan/tilt/zoom, and fixed cameras. One of the most attractive aspects beyond the rich set of features is that there is no necessity to maintain a subscription. Buy the camera, an SD Card if you want to save videos, and you can monitor the camera and recordings from anywhere using your cellphone or the Foscam VMS app. For all the features these cameras are robust and generally trouble-free once you have the WiFi to the more remote parts of your home established. And, the remote parts are likely where you will have the outdoor cameras. One of the bzillion configuration options available if you need it is to be able to adapt the bandwidth of video stream to suit the environment though. I like that a lot. I did have a couple of failures over the last 10-12 years (of maybe 16 cameras established for relatives and friends). One was a failed plug-top USB power supply after a nearby lightning strike interrupted power to my home and was easily replaced with an old phone charger; another was also after a power interruption and the camera would boot but would not send video. In that last case I reached out to Foscam support even though the camera was out of Warranty and they were just wonderful. Nora Chau got back to me within hours with useful suggestions and provided me with recovery firmware. That was ultimately unsuccessful but along the was she set up a Zoom with a support engineer and we worked through some diagnostics together. This for an out-of-warranty camera remember. That Foscam would invest so much effort on me tells me two things. 1. They stand behind their products and go the distance to make their customers happy. 2. The cameras must be reliable because they have time to deal with a single failure and want to understand what happened. Strongly recommended. Delighted with their support. Nora Chau went well beyond my expectations to represent Foscam in a very professional manner. - Frank

Foscam, From Hero Company To Zero. Junk Software in Good Hardware.
Firstly, I have been a long time Foscam Buyer and Advocate who has purchased many of their cameras and through recommendations sold many of their cameras. I can no longer support this company with the direction they have taken the software that runs their cameras which you have been castrated out of control of in their attempts to both make it idiot proof (that's what they think of you) and to be in virtual control of your camera away from you. Plus the many bugs and missing features. This is like a communist China, New World Order, WEF, and young snowflake programmers mentality all in one. If you are new to Foscam and don't know what is missing that was available before you won't know the difference unless you have a way to compare it to the past or other camera companies. It's like someone living in an urban area with dirt air, streams, rivers and not knowing what its like to live in the country with clean fresh air and water to compare with. The hardware is run by software (firmware) that had many features that you could set either on your computer browser where you had best and easiest full menu selections of the features and settings or more limited control on the phone app. You could easily assign / take control of the ip address and port number for those who want static ip's and better control of their computer system. You could assign easily many users and types of users and passwords. You could control snapshots types and duration's, email control of notices and snapshots, record to local computer folders or FTP upstream it to your domains. You had better control of storage locations, SD card Management, different alarm settings, Firewalls, Pan Tilt Zoom Cruse & Guard Positions, etc and a whole lot more including using your monitor (or TV as monitor) to view what the camera sees. Now you have your blinders on because all these feature switches have been TURNED OFF. If you find and put the cameras IP address on your browser they tell you to use the extremely limited phone app or NVR which is also very limited and both very hard to use compared to the old way that worked great. To put it bluntly... Their Camera Software is now junk and neutered. Seems all they want to do is push their cloud services over your ownership control of the camera you spent your hard earned money on and own. If you don't believe me... See my review on their NVR and on the VZ4 Dome Camera. I bought this R4 camera to replace and older version of same camera with the excellent software running it that got damaged. No comparison. The older was better. This is not an improvement its a mere shadow of something that worked great and got screwed up by the new frame of mind snowflakes and direction the company and young programmers are now taking it. I can no longer recommend Foscam to anyone I care about and like, and I can't recommend it to new people who don't know the difference. I would tell others to research other camera companies that will respect them more in advance with good firmware & features before they get invested into a brand name with more cameras into a security system. The Foscam system is now not the direction to put your money unless they wake up to customer feedback and roll back BAD decisions and changes and turn back on the software switches that allow a customer full control of the HARDWARE THEY PUT THEIR MONEY INTO AND OWN. This new foscam mentality is to close to the new world orders line, you will own nothing and be happy. Well screw you... I'm not happy with you now, what you have done, and where you are taking this. Freedom, Choice, Independence from central control is where MOST people want to be. So make a well informed conscious choice upfront and look at other companies besides Foscam now and compare. Listen to the people who have had their products long term and what their past and current reviews are before you buy. Foscam... If you are reading this. Get your Act together. Many Companies with good products have gone out of business because they did not listen to feedback, and lost touch with what customers wanted and instead tried to jam their short sighted ideas and shortcomings upon them. ========= How to Solve the Problem ====== A way out for Foscam. If wisdom can prevail from history.... there was this little Company called Coca-Cola who once too had a great and popular product until the internal company newbies in their race to make a name for "themselves" and leave their mark on the world changed that by forcing the popular Coke Formula version out and retiring what greatness others before them brought forth instead of carrying it forward. The result was buyers used their buying power and spoke out against the change and used their buying power to change brands. This drove sales down (as it should) and revenues also (as it should) and finally the powers to be came to their senses and brought back the original version of Coke rebranded as Coca-Cola Classic. Wake Up Foscam and do the same. There are many software packages out their running on both basic user mode and OPTIONAL Expert or Advanced mode for those who want full feature use of what they paid for. Simply add the checkbox for Expert or Advanced Mode to allow what feature the owner wants to use and how, and the problem is solved. Foscam, how Coca-Cola recovered, The company gave in to protests and returned to the old formula under the name Coca-Cola Classic, on July 10, 1985. "New Coke" remained available and was renamed Coke II in 1992; it was discontinued in 2002. Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it !

Failed after 14 months
Despite the fact that the same model failed after a little over a year, I went ahead and bought it again. Why? I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment. I've owned Foscam cameras for over 10 years now. Previous cameras (all indoor models similar to this one) have lasted about 5 years. The most common problem was that they eventually lost the ability to to connect over wifi. They would lose their connections sporadically, until they completely stop working. Even a hard reset didn't help. Still, this model was by far the easiest to set up, the Foscam software is adequate for my needs, and the price was good. If this one fails after a year, I will give up on them. Ideally, I'd rather have a Ring product, since I already own many of thir devices, but I want the cam live on my monitor 24x7, and Ring doesn't support that.
