This is a subtle yet delightful black tea and my personal favorite for black teas!
Teas can be very personal in terms of what any individual enjoys, but for those familiar with Stephen Smith and his background, this is a stellar example of a simple, subtle, and yet very balanced depth of flavors for a black tea. Not overpowering, in fact, probably a little more subtle than most. Well, to be totally honest, I find that this blend is so good for me that I use more water than recommended because even then the flavors are pronounced but subtle and it allows me to sip this tea for much longer and still enjoy. If you use the recommend 6-8 ounces the flavor comes up a notch or two, but for some reason I enjoy the light interplay of flavor notes even when it isn't as strong. In fact, for me that is a major selling point since most teas are kind of a flavor "bang" and then done and even 6 ounces of water is enough to empty everything out of the tea leaves. These leaves seem to continue to leach flavors into the water much longer than most commercial teas, which I attribute to the quality of the underlying ingredients. And, if a black tea isn't your cup of tea (so to speak ;-) ) you generally can't go wrong with Stephen Smith teas in general!

My all-time favorite English breakfast tea blend
Iโve been drinking Smith teas for a few months, and although the British Brunch blend, an Assam based variety, is an excellent black tea, I tried Portland Breakfast and was completely captivated by it, and itโs perhaps the best black tea Iโve ever had. Superb flavor and a strong black tea, this variety is beyond superb and into the sublime. Itโs an incredible blend, and I believe that all English breakfast tea lovers would enjoy it. I can usually detect my favorite blends by the smell of the tea when brewing it, but this blend is unusual in that the scent didnโt give itself away, so I was wary; but from the first sip I was in tea heaven. All those to whom Iโve given the tea found it special as well. Iโve now been trying the other blends of Smith teas, including Bungalow (a Darjeeling based blend), and their excellent peppermint tea, and clearly these are well crafted tea blends. We all have different senses of smell and taste, but for those seeking a higher plane of tea sipping should consider Smith teas worthy of sampling. Portland Breakfast, by the way, is a pu-erh based tea, my first foray into that type, and I was elated to finally sample such a blend.

A Bit Intense
This tea is very good, especially if you like a robust tea with a bit of a smoky flavor. I find that I actually enjoy the tea more as I get further into the cup. It seems to mellow a bit. But I would definitely buy it again.

Strong.
I like strong tea. I've tried English, Irish, Scottish, Assam, various Chineese and American teas, but this is my favorite. Great taste, not bitter even after 10-15 minutes of steeping (did I mention I like strong tea).

Big Fan of Smith Teas
I have been a big fan of many of the S. Smith teas for a number of years now. They have delicious blends and make for a very refreshing cup of tea.

DO NOT BUY
Useless rip-off. Flavourless, weak, total disappointment.

Weird fishy smell
Wanted to give it a 2.5 stars out of 5 since I'm not sure if it's a bad batch issue but initially ordered this tea since I noticed it had a lot of great reviews and wanted to try it, but tea bag after tea bag has a weird fish like smell and taste to it... Not sure if it's a isolated situation but I will order and stick to Harney & Son's since I've always had great experience with all of their different flavors teas previously. Unless Steven Smith Tea company would like to send me a free variety pack for me to try and have a better experience going forward...?
