Neat, basic, capture unit..
First off, I am IT savvy but this is my first step into the murky waters of video capture. After a LOT of reading product reviews I decided to buy this little unit for my 9yo son who's determined to try his hand at being a youtuber. The unit arrived very quickly (thanks Amazon Prime) in it's box which also contained the mini-usb to usb cable required for connection to the PC. I must state that this review is based on my use with an XBox One and it was rather fortunate that I already had a spare HDMI cable as the unit basically sits in between the console and the TV acting as a HDMI pass through while throwing the stream out to a PC/Laptop via the USB connection.Having seen the quality and ease of use of this unit I almost wish I'd gone for the PC free version AverMedia C875 GL710 Live Gamer Portable HD , though the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 (GC510) was far too much money for a first slash at this.Personally I found it a doddle to set up and use, even the firmware update went smoothly. The Avermedia RECentral software (which you also have to download from the website) is not a fully functioning editing suite but rather simply the means to capture the video and stream it off in the selected format.Once captured, I use a free 3rd party editing suite for post production and subsequent uploading to YouTube. I also use another 3rd party product to make the filesize as small as possible for the final upload. The output file format can be either .TS which is a format more generally used for storing video on DVD's or the more edit-suit friendly MP4. Some editing software (windows moviemaker included) will not readily open .TS files but it's easily converted using more 3rd party file conversion software. We opened the unit on Christmas Day and had our first video on Youtube by the end of Boxing day (not bad considering there was a bit of a learning curve plus other presents to play with). So far, the only slight niggles I've found (hence four stars) is the matter of the unit needing to be powered by the USB cable for the HDMI passthrough to continue to work. If you can't/don't keep the LGP's USP permanently plugged into the laptop/PC, you have to have an alternate USB slot to 'park' the unit while it's not in use otherwise you end up having to swap HDMI cables around to keep playing on your console. The second, niggle (and this might just be the way I'm using it) I wasn't getting any sound on the TV while using the device. It was recording the sound OK, and we could hear it on the headphones and PC, but there was nothing from the TV itself. I can't get the 'in game voice comentary' to record either through the game-controller nor the line-in on the capture card. I'm going to buy an external Mic to connect to the laptop to see if that's the way to do it.Generally, all things considered, this unit has got us off the ground and I'm confident it'll do until we outgrow it and have to spend some serious cash on something more beefy. NECESITAREIS SPLITTER HDMI

Does not work with Macs
There is confusion as to the Mac compatibility of this device. My LGP Lite appeared to be dead on arrival in that it would not get beyond the boot (blue slow circle of lights). After downloading ReCentral and ReCentral Express and installing on two macs 10.13.x and 10.15.4 I still could not get the device recognised. Contacting Avermedia suggests Macs will only work with ReCentral Express but not work with LGP Lite at all. So even though ReCentral Express should work with 10.13 and Beta with 10.15 (according to their scant info on the download pages) the LGP Lite does not work with ReCentral Express. I can't test ReCentral as I the LGP is still dead. Even if I could get the combo to work the LGP only integrates with OBS in Windows and can't record and stream at the same time... so you are stuffed whichever. Avermedia need to get their product spec info sorted - their web pages are useless.Based on this experience, and the dead LGP, I won't bother with them again. One star.

Best budget capture card on the market!!!
I bought this capture card so I could stream and record Fortnite and Red Dead Redemption on PS4. The quality of the capture card makes this the best budget capture card ont he market. The avermedia live gamer portable is great for streaming and recording at1080p 30fps. It also can record and stream at 720p 60fps. It is the best budget capture for all platforms. It is ideal for anyone who is starting to stream or be a YouTube. The capture is really easy to setup. You just plug a hdmi into the PS4 and tv which lead to the capture card then a cable goes from the capture card to the laptop. When you pair this capture card with OBS or Steamlabs OBS it can be a great setup. There are lots of great ways to make this capture card work for you. This is the best budget capture card on the market, I recommend it to anyone who is starting out in streaming YouTube.

- I love the quality of the records
- It worked perfectly using the RECentral software.- I love the quality of the records, full HD- You will have to buy a second HDMI but I personally think that is to be expected and you can get them cheap enough.- There are plenty of tutorials and visual reviews on YouTube if you are a little unsure; including how to use it.- I recommend just looking up how to use this product before you buy as well as reviews on how well it works on your windows operating system. I have only used it on my Toshiba laptop (windows 10) and it has worked fine so far. I haven't personally tested on my PC (Windows 7).- It is super light and definitely as it describes 'portable', that I find awesome.- Another recommendation is not to be recording for hours and hours on end with it. I find doing bits at a time works best.- It does heat up after some time but the reason I found that out was because I didn't unconnect it after recording, I just used continued using it to play with my friend for a while longer till I realised it was getting a little hotter (I do not recommend - I was just being lazy and it hasn't happened since!).
