An authentic home port of the arcade game...
This is an authentic home version of the arcade game (actually, four different BBH arcade games in one package). If you're a fan of the arcade originals, then you'll enjoy the PC version to play at home. It's especially great for those hobbyists who've built themselves a PC-based arcade cabinet, with big CRT monitors and a decent light gun. (Act Labs, makers of CRT-based USB light guns, have been hinting at an upcoming pump-action shotgun controller on their home page for a while now, but nothing available for purchase yet.) If you're looking for a hunting simulation, or anything that even remotely resembles actual hunting, look elsewhere. In terms of gameplay, this game is very reminiscent of Nintendo's old "Duck Hunt" (minus that a--hole dog). It's basically a hunting-themed shooting gallery, where you try to shoot as many bucks as you can, while avoiding the does, before they all run off-screen. The product description calls the graphics "tremendously realistic". Let's just call that a tremendous overstatement. :-) But hey, we're talking about a game that first hit arcades (and bars) in 2000. So we shouldn't expect modern Hi-Def graphics here... Bottom line: If you're looking for an arcade-authentic home version of Big Buck Hunter, you can't go wrong with this PC version. It's the exact same software as on the arcade machines. Just don't expect much depth, or anything close to a real hunting simulation.

Big Buck Hunter
After a 700 mb install, you still have to have the disc in the drive. The copy protection sceme is annoying on this game. If you double click on the desktop icon and half the time even with the disc in the drive, it will say you have not inserted the original disc in the drive or it doesn't recognize the disc. Best thing to do is insert the disc, let it spin up, and then dlick on the desktop icon. Clicking on the auto run screen doen't always work all the time either. With a standard mouse this game is hard to play and doesn't feel right because you have to click the right and left buttons at the same time to reload/fire. (If you've played the arcade version) As far as the game goes, it is pretty fun, if you have quick reactions and use your Wii remote via a Wii remote windows driver, (Wii) sensor bar, and bluetooth hook up as the mouse it feels more like shotting. Each area seems pretty much the same graphics wise. Why is the Utah hunt in the dark? Canada in the most fun because you get to shoot at elk, a bigger target. This game isn't the exact same as the arcade game. Dissappointing is the shooting galleries aren't accessable at your leisure, or at least we haven't found out how to access them.

Not nearly as good as the real thing, but it will do
Although it's nice to be able to play a little BBH at home, nothing compares to the real thing and shooting with the gun. The bucks are very fast and hard to catch aiming with a mouse. You only get to shoot Whitetail and bonus games, no other options for big game. I don't think I will play this all the time, but it's a fix when I can't get to a bar!

Audio control is ziltch
The game is fun but lack of volume and that annoying audio opening really drops the fun. The cross hair lines could be a couple of pixels bigger because you loose sight of them when moving fast. Not sad I bought it but no configuring sucks.
