Power

The first 4 tracks and track 6 are excellent additions to Kansas legacy of great musicianship and enjoyable melodies. The title track "Power" is by far my favorite but "Silhouettes in Disguise" and "Musicatto" come in 2nd and 3rd. "All I Wanted" and "Secret Service" also were enjoyable to this Kansas fan!

I remember shopping at a music store way back in November of 1986. I was shocked to see a new KANSAS album because I had heard that they had disbanded back in 1984, but I was quite pleased to hear that Steve Morse was now in the band. I had heard some of his previous work with the DIXIE DREGS and really enjoyed it. I knew that he was one great guitar player, so I eagerly bought this superb album. He didn't disappoint. This is a far better album than it's predecessor DRASTIC MEASURES. "Musicatto" is just a superb instrumental. I don't think they had done one of those in a long time. I also really like the track "Three Pretenders", "Tomb 19", "Silouettes in disguise", and "We're not alone anymore". Steve Morse just blazes through this superb rocking album. I also liked Steve Walshes vocal contributions as well. I saw the great tour for this album, and boy they didn't disappoint in the least. The very start of the concert was great because they started it in the dark with the song "Musicatto". I just had goosebumps all over my body. It was just amazing. I had to go see them again with my friend Randy about 2 weeks later. The concert was that good. I never would have thought that Steve Morse would ever be the lead guitarist in my all time favorite band, but unbelievably it actually happened. Just buy this underated gem, you'll be glad you did. ENJOY!!!!

This Kansas is very different animal than the 70's version of Kansas. With Steve Morse on guitar it is obvious something would have to change. Many things are different about this album. Most notably the lack of the signature violin. Power is one heavy guitar laden album. It is very powerful with more of a pop metal edge to it than previous Kansas Albums. A lot of Kansas fans panned this album but if you listen without expectations and an open mind you will find one powerful albums. Considering this album has a 5.99 list on e-bay and you can pick it up new for as little as $1.60 from amazon re-sellers what have you got to lose! Great music at a great price, Grab it now while you can get it so cheap.

This is a great CD with great music - not there best CD, but a very good one.

Great CD. Also have it on vinyl. My favorite song on it is "End of the Age". Jesus Christ is coming soon. I'm a Christian and all kinds of music helps me cope, to God be the glory for it all. The music ROCKS, too!!!

Not Kansas at their peak, but it's still Kansas and that's saying something.

The band is not the same without Kerry.

Well I bought this ONLY because I am trying to buy everything Steve Morse did, and it is not for me. No disrespect to Kansas, an important band in some genre, but this is way too moot and "different" to what I usually like, ie Steve's solo work, Dixie Dreggs etc. Beyond sheer Kansas fans of course, this is only for the Morse completists, and I am not even sure of that.

This album by any other band would be a great record. The problem always comes when comparing this effort to any of Kansas 70s releases. From that point of view it is justified, there are not many "classic Kansas" trademarks in here. It is pretty much a product of their times, the 80s. But if you look around at today's music scene (sigh). Let me tell you the 80s look pretty darn good in hindsight.The reason why you should pay attention to this album is because it contains great songs, period. Most of them written by S. Walsh and S. Morse.The most well-known song here is "All I Wanted", a pretty catchy pop song that I personally love, but if that scares you away, let me tell you it does not go further than that into pop land, you'll find great musicianship and singing throughout "Power".This particular CD release (Label: MCA / ASIN: B000002Q7Y), reproduces all of the original artwork: band photos, lyrics and detailed technical information in a fold-out design.

Steve Morse, inyecta una dosis de rock y virtuosismo al sonido Kansas. Walsh como siempre sublime.

10ème album studio du groupe, sorti en 1986, "Power" marque le retour de l'excellent chanteur Steve Walsh, parti après "Audio-visions" (1980). Si cet album est meilleur à mon sens que le précédent ("Drastic measures"), il est toujours assez éloigné du rock progressif des 5 premiers albums. On navigue entre pop-rock fm et hard-rock fm. De bons titres comme l'accrocheur "Silhouttes in disguise", l'instrumental "Musicatto" (seul morceau qui rappelle un peu les vieux albums, en tout cas dans sa conception), la jolie ballade "Taking in the view" avec ses coeurs d'enfants ou encore l'entrainant "Tomb 19" côtoient des titres assez moyens comme le mièvre "All I wanted" ou le quelconque "We're not alone anymore", les autres morceaux restant corrects mais pas inoubliables. Si vous êtes fans de Toto, Foreigner ou Journey, pourquoi pas? Si vous préférez le prog, écoutez "Leftoverture" (1976) ou "Point of know return" (1977), certainement les 2 meilleurs albums du groupe.

Un discreto cd di Prog/pomp rock . Qui alla chitarra c'era Steve Morse che se la cavò bene. Ottima la voce di Billy Greer poi con Slamer nei Seventh Key.

Très bon album de ce groupe mythique auquel on doit notamment le magnique titre "dust in the wind", ce n'est pas mon album préférer mais ça reste très bon.

Steve Morse und Steve Walsh zeigen für den Grossteil der Songs verantwortlich. Der Stil ist eher untypisch für Kansas, jedenfalls wenn man komplizierte und längere Arrangements erwartet. Gleichwohl ist dennoch ein roter Faden zu früheren Produktionen zu erkennen, allem voran duch Steve Walsh selbst. So gesehen bewegt sich das Album irgendwo zwischen Journey, Foreigner und den "alten" Kansas. Alle Songs gefallen mir gut, besonders aber "All I Wanted", " Tomb 19" und "Can't Cry Anymore".

８６年発表の１１作目。メンバーの相次ぐ脱退により、一時期は解散状態だったグループにスティーヴ・ウォルシュ(vo、k) が復帰。フィル・イハート(dr)、リチャード・ウィリアムス(g) のオリジナル・メンバーに元ドレッグスのスティーヴ・モーズ(g)、ビリー・グリアー(b) を加えた新生カンサスとして発表された革新作。グループの中心になっているのは新加入のスティーヴ・モーズであり、既に楽曲の大半にその名前が刻まれている。演奏面でもハードで切れが良いギターが冴え渡っており、グループを一気に若返らせている。実際に本作はカンサスを完全復活させた重要作かつ大ヒット作だが、従来のファンにはそのモ−ズのカラーが強すぎて今となっては冷遇されている作品とも言えるかもしれない。どちらにしても本作がなければ現在のカンサスは存在していなかったかもしれない。１．はストレートなハード・ロックでドライヴするエレクトリック・ギターと若返ったウォルシュのハイ・トーン・ヴォーカルが拮抗する佳曲。２．は本作のベスト・トラックとも言うべきミドル・テンポのハード・ポップ曲。一度聞いたら忘れられないほど印象的なメロを持った佳曲である。３．は美しいメロディを持ったパワー・バラード。７．はチャイルド・コーラスを導入したフォーク曲だが、初期の雰囲気を残している。この時代に復権したＡＳＩＡ、ＥＬ＆Ｐｏｗｅｌｌなどのプログレ系のハード・ポップ／ロックに焦点を合わせた内容で実際に従来のカンサスとは大きな路線変更があるのだが、その距離感をウォルシュのヴォーカルが見事に埋めている。やはり“声”は重要である。

カンサス名義だからといって、プログレッシブなリズムを期待すると裏切られる。これはスティーブ・ウォルシュ・バンドだ。ストレートでメロディアスなハードロックが並んでいる。Secret ServiceやMusicattoあたりにプログレっぽさは見られるが、70年代のようなものとは違う。ここからはAll I wantedがシングルヒットした。70年代カンサスを期待せず、割り切って聴けば、アルバムとしてはなかなかいい出来だ。

26年前たまたまラジオを聴いていて、凄い曲と凄まくてメロディアスなギターソロがながれてきた。曲名がわからなかったのでこんなギターソロ弾ける奴はマイケルシェンカーしかいないと思い込み大喜びした。しかし、次の週オール・アイ・ウォンテッドがかかりそこでまた凄まじいギターソロ　それを弾いていたのは元ドッレグスのスティーブ・モーズだった。次の日慌ててアナログレコードを買いにいった。今でもそのときの衝撃はわすれられない。何故なら当時いままで聞いたことのない音だったから　プログレでもない。産業ロックでもない。今までのヘビィメタルとも違う　まさしくメロディアスハードのはじまりの音だったからただ、当時のこのアルバムのCDの音質は最悪でアナログ盤とはくらべものにならないほど酷かった。今回のSHM-CDはアナログ盤にはかなわないものの音質はもちろんよく、26年前の感動が蘇えった。最高のアルバムミレニアム、ラストトライブが好きなら即買うべきスティーブ・モーズが参加しているトライアンフのSURVEILLANCEも凄いよ。
