Do not drop on your toe!
This is a very heavy, solid feeling brute of a knife.and i love it! I was looking for an inexpensive cutting tool that i could really beat on and that appears to be what i got. I dont really consider it a pocket knife due to the weight tho. This knife has 1/8" thick frame plates and is assembled with 2 large build screws and stand offs.it has a fairly large blade stop (about 1/8")and a large pivot screw about 1/4" shaft diameter. The same steel stock, hardware size and general construction as the model 301S i also reviewed. The only meaningful differences are the handle shape and blade style. This knife has a 3/16" by 3 5/8" long drop point blade with a short hollow grind and about 1" of serrations. The blade has a good belly and is quite sharp tho it came with a small ding in the middle of the edge.bummer but ill work that out when i sharpen the first time. It shaves hair and slices paper very well despite its thickness. Im sure the steel is probably just plain old 420 series stainless.nothing fancy.good toughness and corrosion resistance but will need sharpening often. Thats ok bc for what i bought these knives for ,prying, splitting and busting up rotten, nail riddled and damaged house framing and such,it will be just fine. No steel keeps its edge long in that environment anyway. There is no jimping on this knife but there is two scallops in the spine of the blade just above the thumbstuds that provide some purchase. The handle isnt as comfortable as the model 301S but is functional and offers decent grip. The blade is very smooth through its swing and deploys easily and quite quickly thanks to the mass and inertia of that massive blade. It locks up tightly with no play anywhere. The lock bar engaging the blade tang to about 45% depth. Seems very secure. Spine whacks and rough treatment hasnt caused any lock rock or inadvertent un locking on either model. The pocket clip is decent but most wont want to carry this juggernaut in that manner. Thrown in a glove compartment, tool box or tool belt is more likely. Seems to be a hell for stout cutting tool. Exactly what i wanted. It looks good, feels pretty good, operates very well and fills the role i wanted it for perfectly. Now I'll see how tough it really is. I will beat the hell out of it and put it through its paces. Ill update with any issues soon but for now i really like it and recommend it to anyone in need of a heavy duty cutting implement. Those in need of a pocket knife should probably look elsewhere unless you just like heavy, overbuilt and over weight tools . I do and im sure others do too.Update-Dec 30,2014Ive owned this brute a while now and have put it thru a moderate amount of use/abuse and wanted to share my experience with those planning to purchase this knife.Considering its price point it has held up pretty well.i haven't had any real problems thus far but have noticed what i would consider accelerated wear on the action. The pivot has become smooth as glass and lockup is secure but the lock bar now engages to a depth of about 90% of blade thickness. Quite a bit of wear considering the thickness and solid steel construction of components.hopefully its broken in now and wear will cease or atleast slow. I have been rough on this knife but it definitely seems to wear a bit more than most more expensive but lighter built knives. We'll see how it holds up.The blade has held its edge about average.requiring a touch up every couple days of heavy use and complete resharpening about every 1-4 weeks depending on usage. It sharpens easily tho and takes a keen edge. The finish has held up better than expected showing only minimal wear compared to how rough ive been with it.Overall its an excellent value for a good solid knife.well worth the money. Not the most comfortable,or the best in any catagory but a good dependable performer. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another and ditto for the model 304 and 301S i also have. Heavy built doesnt quite equal extremely well built with these knives but comes very close. Highly recommended.Update Aug 19,2015:I retract that last statement. Actually this knife is extremely well built and after a bit of accelerated wear,it has settled in nicely and lockup hasn't moved in months now. This has been a fantastic knife and i love it! It is heavy,no doubt but that equals durability. Ive beaten the hell out of these knives and i haven't had one little problem. This model 303S, the model 304 and the model 301S have all excelled as heavy duty working knives for me. See my other reviews also.At about 10 oz this is a heavy brute but ive found that when working in the woods or doing bushcraft type tasks, the heavy weight actually benefits me. As well as providing stability, the extra weight also provides a bit of momentum and inertia when cutting and shaping wood implements needed for camping, hunting or survival. It may not be useful on the hike in,but when you get to work i have found all that weight to be a plus. Just try it and youll see. Lightweight knives require you to do all the work while these heavyweights actually carry some of their own weight by powering through tough cuts. And this blade has been excellent. It doesn't stay sharp very long but it sharpens quickly and easily and takes a very fine edge. And the blade shape and geometry works great as a bushcraft or field/survival knife. It chops like no other folder ive ever seenThe pivot has become glassy smooth and lockup is rock solid just like new.Excellent!I guess ive adapted to this knife somewhat as even its ergos seem to have improved. While there are a couple of minor hotspots while doing very heavy cutting tasks, overall ergonomics and comfort level has been very good. Even excellent when wearing gloves. These are just awesome knives and i hope Schrade develops more overbuilt knives for those of us who appreciate uncompromising ,hell for stout tools. More, more, more! 5 stars and highly, highly recommended to the guys who will utilize these amazing tools. You know who you are.

Strong and Sharp
Take your idea of the strength of a tank. Multiply that by 10. Now shrink it down to the size of a folding knife, and you've got this. It is the weight of a hammer, with a 3/16" thick, 1 1/2" wide, 3 5/8" long blade. You could probably baton wood with this. It is colored a lovely gunmetal grey with a nice, strong frame-lock mechanism. Altogether, the width of the handle is over half an inch. It is a lot bigger than the picture makes it look, and very heavy for a pocket knife. A bit too heavy for an EDC, but an absolute monster for camping. The blade is razor sharp out of the box, able to shave hair and paper with no effort. The serrations take up less than half of the blade, so they do not get in the way, but are great for making shavings for tinder when needed. Although they are a bit more difficult to sharpen than a plain edge, they are large serrations, not micro-sized like some knives, and any small sharpening rod will easily fit these serrations. The pocket clip is very slim compared to the rest of the knife, but it fits great into any pocket. It is not too tight that you cannot use it as a clip, but just tight enough that it wouldn't slip out of your pocket accidentally. The handle holds the blade nicely, so it will not accidentally open. When closing the blade, you can hear small click and pull, as if there's a magnet holding it in, which would be awesome. It is easy to flick open quickly with either hand. When locked, the frame lock holds tightly, and is also pushed in by the pocket clip, which does make a slightly irritating click every time you open it, but makes it very sturdy. There is absolutely no blade-play, it's as rigid as a fixed knife. For those of you who would like a slightly lighter model, Schrade makes a version with small ridges carved out of the handle, slgihtly reducing the weight and adding a cool aesthetic look. This knife as well as the ridged version comes in half serrated or plain edge. If you are on the fence between getting this or not, get it. Right now.

Broke in 2 days
This thing is a heavy chunk of steel at the price this thing would be amazing. Problem is great heavy duty knife with realy cheap pot metal like hardware. Pivot screw broke after second day i had it. took apart after it broke to check other hadrware and realizedit was held together with cheap pot metal screws including the pivot screw. I took a small wooden mallet and litely tapped theother screws and they literly shattered!! If your willing to spend time to find better pivot screw and stand off screws this would be amazing buy. the blade and handle are massive slabs of steel.Even if it broke, and you could not use as knife, you could throw it and knock somebody out lol. don't buy unless you are willing to take the time and find some good hardware to hold it togeather

Best budget overbuilt edc folder
This is a great knife. Large yet comfortable in the hand. The weight gives it stability. I reprofiled the edge and it holds a nice sharpness. 9cr has nice characteristics. This thing is a steal. Buy a couple if you want. This is no wimpy knife or junk. It's beefy and no frills.
