One of my son's favorites!
We discovered this book at the library and my 3 yo loved it, so I bought it as a gift for his friend's birthday. It's a silly, interactive book perfect for preschoolers. Bold, bright illustrations and nice weight to the pages.

Fun book
My grandkids love this book so much. They want to read it every night.

Fun interaction
Good for interaction points with the kiddos (which has been hard to do over Zoom recently), but not really a good teaching/morals book. However, the kids seemed to like it!

Fun, simple activity book to read aloud
When I was a children's librarian my preschool visits always included this activity book that was well-received by the children. Now my toddler loves listening to me read this book and following along with the actions.

Not up to usual Jan Thomas standards
We have read almost all of Jan Thomas's picture books, and own many of them. My son loves them and he thinks they are hilarious! (I do too!) This, however, is a disappointment. There is no story. The ladybug calls out instructions to the reader, like stand up! sit down! and then it asks the reader to imagine that the reader has swallowed a bug, to spit it out, do the chicken dance, etc. It might be fun if you were reading this book to a classroom full of kids, who might enjoy standing up, jumping up and down, according to the ladybug's instructions. It is totally lost on a child who is getting a book read to him a) at a quiet library or b) at bedtime. My 3 year old was on my lap and of course couldn't jump up and down, and he was also a little confused as to why he was asked to do these things. The worst part is at the end the ladybug asks the reader to make a scary face to scare away the frog, and then they all run away because the reader's face is too scary! My son laughed half-heartedly, but when story time was over he asked me to bring the book with me and take it away. And he never asked for it again. He was afraid of the "scary face" too.I wish I had previewed this book at the library before buying it, so I could have avoided buying it.Jan Thomas has a lot of books that are far far better. Our favorites are: Rhyming dust bunnies. Are you ready for some fun? Let's sing a lullaby for the brave cowboy. Pumpkin trouble. The Doghouse.

Not an instant favorite
The book got great reviews and it is a good idea, but my special needs preschoolers did not really seem to get that the bug was talking. I used a different voice and did what I could to indicate it was the bug. I would have preferred a visual for the actions to also be completed by the bug. "I have a tiny bug on my nose, pretend you have one too. Now wiggle it off" Now admittedly part of the problem is I sometimes get silly and say similar things that the bug said (especially the stand up, sit down routine). I do think that if I read it a few times, the children will get the idea and have even more fun with it, but, with the great reviews, I was hoping for an instant response. This book may help the children understand words in print have meaning.

Fun Book
A great Jan Thomas book! Children can act out the story as it is being read.

Not scary it draws little ones in with words and pictures
We first enjoyed Jan's book Dog House at our local library. When I purchased several books for our own library including Can You Make a Scary Face, my preschoolers were delighted. I read this first to a group of 3-4 yr olds. The first page says to stand up....so they did and on we went through the book following the directions with no input from me other than reading the words. The expressions and faces they made were so funny I giggled with them. When we finished, they asked me to read it again! The following day, I read it to a group of 4-5 year olds. They did the same thing as the younger group! What a riot! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Average book.
Just a normal/regular book. Seeing the review at amazon.com (not at .in) I thought it will be just awesome, but it is just another book with good pages. The book has a book which makes scary pages. My kid aged 3 was not much amused by this book, since he already had similar books. I wish I should have avoided buying this.Which kid gets scared from a frog in India :). The book assumes you will get scared by a frog or a bug on your nose :)
