Columbia River Point Guard - Razor Sharp Edge #6753

I purchased my first Point Guard from the local outfitter a decade ago when I was a Boy Scout. Since then I have always had one CRKT knife or another, all the way through to my current daily carry. I was disappointed when CRKT discontinued the Point Guard, and again after purchasing a misleadingly labled smaller (3") version from an online auction. I was so happy to see the full (3.5") size for sale here that I purchased two. In my experience, no knife in the price range has matched the practicality and elegance of this simple blade.I use my daily carry knife frequently for routine tasks but never for protection, so the Point Guard is well suited to my requirements. The absence of protruding hand guards found on some tactical knives means the knife goes in and out of a pocket or bag without a fuss, and the pocket clip and plastic grips are surprisingly comfortable in the hand. The un-serrated 420 stainless blade sharpens up easily. With a little attention from a whetstone, it is easy to get the knife sharper than it arrives from the factory.Having owned this knife for many years, I have a few thoughts:1. As with all open-backed knives, avoid keeping it in the same pocket as keys or loose change, as they can contact the blade's edge.2. If the knife gets wet, keep put a few drops of water displacing oil (WD-40, etc) around the thumb flicker. Water tends to infiltrate this area by capillary action.3. Fight the urge to lubricate the pivot. Instead, invest in a Torx screwdriver and dismantle/clean the knife periodically. When the Teflon bushings are clean, the knife opens so easily that it can be deployed with a flick of the wrist.When properly cared for, the Point Guard is a truly reliable and attractive knife.

CRKT has been turning out quality products for years! I have own several of their knives and they have all survived the abuse of every day carry. This knife was a fathers day gift! It is easy to sharpen and holds a edg well. The plastic handle has survived being dropped many times and it goes in the ocean with me every time. For the price this is a winner! Aloha Rob
