Working Flawlessly on a MacBook Air M1
I recently upgraded my music studio from an aging iMac setup to a MacBook Air M1, integrating the MacBook Air required a bit of thought in how multiple peripheral devices would be hooked up to a computer with only two USB C/Thunderbolt 3 ports.Obviously the docks are aimed at users that have specific needs, for me I would be hooking up an external monitor, a thunderbolt 3 audio interface, a USB MIDI interface, and multiple USB hard drives. I had watched various YouTube reviews and one video in particular by Jon Sine using this dock is really what sold me on the Wavlink, he's got a pretty extensive setup and the Wavlink has been handling his setup effortlessly for over a year so I knew my setup would be solid. One thing I will mention, and this goes for any dock, once you get everything plugged in and up and running properly, place your dock in an area that it will be largely undisturbed, it's not recommended to be moving your dock around and fiddling with connections while everything is up and running. If necessary, you can always add a USB hub that allows you to plug and unplug flash drives, etc. quickly. Also, with this setup I always have an available USB C/Thunderbolt 3 available on the MacBook Air.I know there are highly rated products by OWC and CalDigit, but I don't know that they would've performed any better and I've read reports of those docks running very hot at times and can confirm that the Wavlink does not get very hot ever. It's amazing to be able to bring the MacBook into the studio and plug in a single Thunderbolt 3 cable and have my entire studio up and running in seconds, everything has been running flawlessly for the past few months for me.

Great for many needs, for a short time
UPDATE: January 10, 2022For some reason today my external monitor stopped displaying through the Wavlink. I went through the normal troubleshooting steps to no end. I am now connected to my external monitor using a USB-C to HDMI adapter. The rest of the Wavlink seems to work and I'll continue to try to get things in working order - but this seems like it's a lost cause. Everything is up to date. I downloaded the latest updates to my system and the drivers from Wavlink and there's been no change. If I can get this working, I'll put the steps I took to get there in this review. Otherwise - this is now strictly a USB-C hub, which is nice, it's simply not what I need and not what I purchased this device for.Second EDIT - I have been unable to get it working very well. After unplugging it for a few days, I reconnected everything. It seems to work for the following: Displayport, external hard drive (still fairly fast, but seems slower. This is subjective since I don't have any measuring capabilities), USB A wireless mouse dongle, Ethernet, and one other USB A connection. I haven't tried the SD/micro SD card slots. External Webcam connected to any of the USB ports does not work, webcam works when directly connected to the Macbook and on other devices. It's back to being VERY HOT after a bit of use.Original Review below:-------------------------------------------------This is actually working well. for my needs. What do I like?* Compact and unobtrusive* Has several ports and monitor connecter that I need for my work (monitor seems to work much better than with the standard USB-C to HDMI connecter)* Charges my laptop* USB-A ports keep passing power when the laptop is disconnectedWhat I don't like?* Can get very hot (though it no longer gets as hot as when it was new)* The second USB-C port only provides power when the laptop is connected* Laptop has crashed twice (as of the writing of this) since I started using. Logs report it was because of an issue with a Thunderbolt connected device (this dock was the only connected device both times)

Pretty impressive though laptop use requires compromises
This kind of Thunderbolt dock is a great idea and a no brainer for use with a desktop computer or if you happen to use your laptop at a desk or on a table. It provides high speed connection to Thunderbolt compatible SSD as well as great USB 3 access to disks, SD cards and so on.Its weakness is when used with a laptop on one's lap. It would be really nice to have a laptop computer connected to charging and auxiliary data drives. This device works, but there are compromises. To start with, there are active 2m Thunderbolt cables sold, but they are unreliable. Disk drives will randomly unmount and the associated error messages will pop up. The disk is usually fine and can just be reconnected and remounted, but at least one drive has gone bad after such a disconnect. The solution seems to be using a 0.7m cable which is awkward, but acceptable. The adapter has to be right next to my seat on my sofa, and one has to be careful with the cable. Disks still go offline now and then, but every few weeks rather than several times a day.The device runs surprisingly hot. This means it has to be properly ventilated. It can't be stuffed into a drawer out of the way. This may be a function of its need to power a modern laptop. The device will shut off, or at least disconnect, if it overheats, so this puts more constraints and where it can be placed.I'd give this five stars for desktop use, but not everyone uses a laptop at a desk. Still, it is an amazing technology, and with a bit of planning and tinkering with the device and with the furniture, it does provide a magical link for both power and data.

Works well with iPad Pro 2021 (m1)
I have a CalDigit TS3+ connected to my Mac and also a CalDigit Pro Dock connected to my iPad Pro 2021 (I previously used this dock with my 2020 iPad Pro as the dock supports both 10Gb USB C and also 40Gb Thunderbolt 3. ) However I wanted to connect to a spare 10Gbe Thunderbolt 3 adapter I had when docking my iPad. And the Cal Digit Pro Dock doesn’t support 40Gb pass through for daisy chaining. The Wavlink was on special on Amazon for £100 and I thought I’d see if I could use the 10Gbe adapter. The answer is that it works perfectly with the iPad Pro M1.The M1s seem to struggle with full 40Gb speeds but I am getting a solid 500-800 Megabytes per second transferring data from a 10Gbe NAS and my Mac (also 10Gbe).Connected to the Wavlink Dock is a BenQ PD3200U 32” 4K display via Display Port. Also an OWC 10Gbe Thunderbolt 3 connector via TB3 outAnd Edifier speakers (via the Dock’s Audio out)I also have aLogitech MX Master 3 via the Unifying USB Dongle (Connected to a USB Port)Sandisk Extreme SSD via USB 3 5Gb portDurgod Fusion Keyboard (Steam version) Keyboard via USB 3 PortIn terms of presentation, the Wavlink comes in a well presented box with magnetic closure. You get a decent (if short Thunderbolt 3 cable). Compared to my Caldigit TB3 Docks which have a metal enclosure, the Wavlink’s black plastic seems a bit budget, but its half the price (Currently at £100) and for any Mac/iPad users with a Thunderbolt 3 port this really is a no brainier. It works brilliantly, I will report back in a few months and update but right now this is a solid buy at £100 if you have an M1 iPad or Mac with Thunderbolt 3 port

Very good, but LCD Dell monitor doesn’t work with it.
Generally good product. It doesn’t work with my 15-year-old Dell monitor, so I bought a separate thunderbolt-to-DVI cable to hook the monitor directly into my 2020 MacBook Pro. Then it worked, but that partially defeats having the station. So the monitor issue is a problem with the docking station. I contacted the company, two different people answered separately but their English wasn’t good, so I didn’t bother going on, as I couldn’t understand what they were asking for. It’s nice that the docking station has a power button. Everything else works fine. I’ve decided to keep it, as I can work around the monitor issue by plugging it into the computer directly.

Buen dock a buen precio

Causing kernel panics in OS X with M1Max
This is a good thunderbolt 3 doc and it has a good assortment of ports. However, it feels very cheap and might not be durable. When it starts to heat up (and does it ever) the plastic frame starts to creek and make noises. So.. not sure about the longevity of this dock.Update: This TB3 docking station is causing kernel panics in OS X 12 and 12.1. It also seems to eject attached Thunderbolt drives randomly throughout the day. I'll be returning it.

Works... just note these caveats... still weird
Device is great. Got it on a Black Friday sale and it was a good deal. All the features worked, but not initially, you might want to read further to find out the quirks.1) Only 1 USB port is powered, so if you use anything more than USB sticks, you might want to get a powered USB hub.2) DisplayPort works but requires an Active DisplayPort adapter if you want to use it with HDMI3) Network port requires a driver4) If you're an Apple user, the headphone/mic jack has the pins reversed on the mic. You'll need a OMTP to CTIA Adapter to fix this.5) Also, perhaps just my Macbook Air, but it would only be detected on the Thunderbolt 3 port at the bottom. All things considered, it's still a great product and I would recommend it.<Update after 1 month>The dock continues to work but with some inconsistencies. Everyday, the first time i connect the dock to my Macbook Air, my external monitor will flicker endlessly and it refuses to get a stable connection. When i disconnect the dock and retry again, it will always work perfectly after. The built-in ethernet continues to only give 200Mbps. While a usb ethernet dongle connected to the dock will give me full speeds (900+Mbps).
