A mixed bag, from the sublime to the ridiculous
This album lies midway 'twixt Zappa's surrealist proclivities and his more palatable/conventional (but still uniquely Zappa-esque) recordings, such as Hot Rats, One Size Fits All, and the like. I'm torn between four or five stars. There are moments of sublime brilliance, sometimes musically, sometimes in other ways, such as the way his intelligence and hyper-hormonal arrested development collide in his lyrics. And it's always interesting. But it's also quite uneven, at least as far as listening pleasure goes, for me personally. I love Zappa, for myriad reasons, including but not limited to his rugged individualism, his wit, his guitar-playing, his rampant magpie eclecticism, and the demands he makes of himself and his musical cohorts. Many of his albums are essential, and this might even be one of them. It's certainly from a very rich period in his ever prolific output.but it's neither his best nor my favourite. So, whilst for someone else this might be a five star career high, in Zappa's overall oeuvre I rate it four-star.

Frank Zappa at his best
If you have never heard any FZ and want to this is the album to get. It is the most accessible FZ album. It has humour it has great music. You have probably heard 'Don't eat the Yellow Snow' but the album version in my opinion is hilarious put in the context of the surrounding tracks

It's Frank being Frank at his very best, he was a bona fide genius
It's Frank being Frank at his very best , he was a bona fide genius. This is a must for them dipping their toes into what is admittedly a huge and daunting back catalogue.

Brilliant album. I bought this remastered CD to replace the 1980s Rykodisc twofer which was mastered very quietly and was poor quality. The sound on this version is far better, much fuller and if you have that tinny old 80's disc then its worth replacing it.

one of the best albums from FZ
I already had the vinyl copy but it sprouted legs and walked into someone else's collection so when I saw the CD Apostrophe(') at the low price I decided to buy it I think it is one of the best albums from FZ it was the first album I heard and since then I have collected around 35 cd,s from Frank Zappa I was so sad to hear of his untimely death at the age of just 52 I think this album is great for someone who has never heard FZ a must have for any budding guitar players I could go on and on but I think you should just go and buy Apostrophe(') and find out for your self
