The premier slingshot target shooting book
Jack Koehler is one of the world's most respected slingshot shooters and authors and his book has become the bible for competition shooters. To be straight with you, there's a lot I don't agree with written in the book. There are several recommendations that I have tested and found not to work and snippets of physics that are wrong. His approach to shooting involving rubbing lucky beads and chanting mantras may work for some, but not for me. Now that I have that off my chest, I can tell you why you should still buy this book. The vast majority of this book if pure gold and the bits you won't agree with are plainly obvious. Mr Koehler has listed and categorised a great many facts and techniques and construction methods and his well organised book is easy to dip into and quickly find what you need. This book is geared towards those who have purchased or who can already make a top quality slingshot. Most of the engineering aspects that are incorrect or neglected by this book can be found in Richard Middleton's excellent book "The Practical Guide to Man-Powered Weapons and Ammunition", although neither book totally explains slingshot biomechanics, ergonomics or ballistics.Ref:Β The Practical Guide to Man-Powered Weapons and Ammunition: Experiments with Catapults, Musketballs, Stonebows, Blowpipes, Big Airguns, and Bulletbows

Comprehensive and thorough
I've always enjoyed shooting a slingshot, even as a kid. But I always pretty much sucked at it. Took the fun out of it after awhile, when you hit everything except what you were aiming at.I wish I'd found this book sooner. It's got a few things I knew (like my ammunition choices were part of my problem), but is also stuffed with lots of other material I'd never thought about. In fact, every part of this book was helpful, and the recommendations on setting up practice shooting areas made me feel silly for not thinking of it myself. This seems to me like the definitive work on the subject. You don't realize you need it until you read it. Then, a light dawns, and you say to yourself "Ah ha! So THAT'S why I couldn't hit a barn even when standing inside it!"

This is what you're looking for. Incredible.
Incredible. Most people that are getting into slingshots are having to find all their information from YouTube. Lots of good information on YouTube but it's time consuming coloring videos for the answer to a question that may be buried in a 20-minute video. But this book covers everything absolutely everything for a serious slingshot shooter to know. This book will be a classic and will be around forever as the go-to source.

Good
Ok, I'm gonna lay it out straight. This is a good book for a complete noob who is too lazy to do extensive internet research. Most of the information presented can honestly be learned on youtube and through forums. That does not mean this book is without value though. I particularly enjoyed the bit on positive imaging while aiming. This is a great reference to show friends who are interested in slingshots.I like to just sit down and occasionally look through the chapters on aiming, shooting technique, and mind and body conditioning. These topics contain a lot of information that can be forgotten and a little reminder to pay attention to your stance or some other detail is helpful.

Best serious treatment of the slingshot that I ever read
Most of these books on home cobbled weapons, are sensationalistic ramblings of someone that wants to sell books. This is the first really serious treatment on the slingshot that I have ever read. Mr Koehler goes into details that most folks would not. He also does not overplay the effectiveness of the slingshot. At no time does he promote pot hunting of animals larger than the logical limits of a weapon that at best developes 250 to 300 fps. The one suggestion of big game hunting with a slingshot was with paintballs to allow the fun of the stalk without taking a life. His treatment of gradually gaining skill with these simple weapons is thorough. I recomend this book to anyone that is tired of noisy, loud, and expensive.

AUTHORITATIVE & READABLE
Slingshot Shooting A highly informative "how-to" and "why-to" on the art and science of slingshot shooting.Should be provided with every slingshot purchased by a new shooter, and should be given, as a gift, to every shooter who already thinks he/she "knows it all".IOW, this book should be included in every shooter's arsenal.I read this 150 page book in one sitting, and thoroughly enjoyed it.Very highly recommended.Note: I was particularly favorably impressed by the author immediately addressing the issue of safety, and then carrying the theme of safety thoughout the book - very important!Mike RossFlorida State Representative (retired)National Slingshot [email protected]

Great Book, But Very Poor Binding
The book itself was very well written and informative, as well as being easy to read. It would have to be the definitive book on slingshots and the comprehensive information included is something that can be referenced many times in the future.Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the book binding. I am careful with all my books and handle them with much care, but this book just began to disintegrate in my hands about halfway through reading it. The pages became unstuck from the spine very easily and quickly and I now have a pile of loose pages secured (ironically) by a big rubber band to stop them from being lost. Such poor quality binding is obviously unacceptable and should not have occurred.I was initially going to buy another copy for a friend of mine, but will not risk it in case that book is also poorly put together. I would give the book content a rating of 5/5, but having the book in pieces severely reduces the overall rating down to 2 stars.

Excellent book that exceeded my expectations in almost every regard
This is and excellent book that exceeded my expectations in almost every regard. I've been shooting catapults/slingshots for over 60 years but only ever occasionally and for fun and never with great success. After reading this book I now know why I never achieved the competence that I have with various guns and even a long bow but that I could have done so much better. A piece of equipment I always treated as little more than a toy is capable of much more if you study the technicalities and techniques required for genuinely target grade accuracy. This book is easy to read, with clear instructions, good illustrations and straight forward language. The writer is a genuine expert in the subject with international levels of competition success and although it is mainly aimed at competition shooters almost all of the information is equally applicable to casual target shooting or hunting vermin or small game. Whether you are just starting into using a catapult or you have been doing so for years but want to become so much more proficient, read this book and apply what you learn and you will get far greater satisfaction from your sport whatever aspects of it you want to pursue.

Get it read
If you like slingshots it's a must read.It covers all the practical aspects of shooting slingshots and there is a lot of detail about slingshot design and band fitting. There aren't many published works on slingshots so support the author and buy and a copy. For further reading I can recommend "The Practical Guide to Man-powered Weapons and Ammunition", which has a good section on slingshots and covers a lot of detail on band types and power outputs.

A good guide to sling shot shooting
A good guide to sling shot shooting. Pretty comprehensive although does not really consider the use of some of the modern flatbands available.
