I've wanted these for a number of years as they're aesthetically pleasing and are an excellent option for environments where speaker placement options are very limited. The front-facing port helps with minimizing the amount of space required between the back of the speaker and a wall. The unpacking experience shows a great amount of care went into ensuring these speakers would arrive undamaged; double-boxed on the exterior and separated packaging with reusable cloth bags protecting the speakers. The odds of these arriving with cosmetic flaws due to rough handling of the packaging during shipment are very low. Connectivity options are sufficient given the surface area constraints of the integrated amplifier. Bluetooth and a singular line input easily enable multiple sources to play through the Audioengine A2+; adding a pre-amp/DAC into the mix will simplify sharing the line input across multiple sources. The line output eases the process of adding an Audioengine (or other brand) subwoofer to enhance the low frequencies which aren't rendered with authority due to the limitations incurred by such a small woofer size on the speaker. The A2+ gets plenty loud for small to medium sized rooms. They have a slightly bright signature which isn't overbearing; I haven't experienced any listening fatigue over hundreds of hours of media consumption using streaming, CDs, and records. The lacquered finishes are very well done. The use of binding posts to connect the left and right speaker are also appreciated. Adding banana plugs to the ends of the included speaker wire will make the setup even more plug and play. At release, these speakers offered a solution in a specific market that wasn't flooded with competing products. In 2026, it's harder to justify these as being the de facto answer for many people based on price. If space constraints don't exist for your intended application, it's possible to get an equivalent or superior experience at a lower cost. Going slightly larger also presents products which have volume and/or tone controls either on the front of the speaker or the side of the speaker. These speakers produce a fantastic sound. Even though there are no treble or base controls, the sounds are excellently balanced. Setup was quite simple. I connected the speakers to a Bluetooth amplifier and tested the output of the speakers connecting viq Bluetooth to both the amplifier, and also directly to the speakers. In my opinion there isn't enough volume capacity when connecting directly to the speakers, so my choice is to connect via Bluetooth to the amplifier. This results in a huge volume range that is controllable from my phone. It took a bit of tweaking to get the amplifier volume just right so that I didn't overdrive the speakers's amplifier. The finish on the speakers is fantastic. And they are very well made. I particularly liked the fact that the input can be just about anything. Packaging was also excellent with each speaker packaged in its own cloth bag. Be careful unpacking and installing, because there is no grill cloth leaving the actual speaker exposed and susceptible to a finger being jammed into it during unpacking and setup. They're pricey, but outstanding.

The A2+ had great reviews, plus I was looking for something in white to match my desk. Without a subwoofer, I much preferred the sound of the MR4s over the A2+. The A2+ just sounded small, which makes sense given their size. With a subwoofer, the comparison was closer, with the A2+ having a slight edge in overall sound tightness. The A2+ also has better features, like a USB input. In terms of value, the MR4 is the clear winner. If you’re after a more premium look, need smaller speakers, and are willing to add a subwoofer, the A2+ might be worth the extra cost—though it's about four times the price of the MR4. Regardless of which speaker you choose, I highly recommend getting risers or something similar to stop sound from bouncing off the table and to aim the speakers toward your ears. Even though they’re a bit pricey ($30-40), they make a noticeable difference. While being nice they need a subwoofer and risers to sound their best. If you have the money and need a small footprint these are great. Just not enough value for myself.

While I bought these to be computer speakers, I quickly realized that these go far beyond desktop speakers. To really do these justice, you need to be at least six feet away to allow these speakers to breath. Having said that, here are my thoughts on these innovative and versatile audiophile speakers: Input In - These speakers really do act as their own stereo system allowing for multiple types of inputs and outputs. On the input side, I am doing two things: First, I connected a Volumio Music Streamer with ESS Sabre 9038 Dac into the analog connection. So while the AudioEngine includes a DAC this one is much superior and really helps these speakers shine when you are feeding them high res files from Qobuz and or Tidal. Secondly, I am using them as my TV speakers where I can Bluetooth from my Samsung TV directly to these speakers. The pairing is simple, the connection is excellent and everytime I turn on the TV, it asks if I want to use the AudioEngines and of course I do. Extremely easy to switch back and forth from the streamer to the TV. Their is no source to deal with. Whatever you play, TV or Music, the AudioEngines just play. Outputs: Here is the fun part. There are line out subwoofer connections. So the AudioEngine sends a signal to a subwoofer. AudioEngine makes a little bub, but I chose the Cambridge Minx 2.1 which also allows line in from external. And my goodness, here we go, as this is a complete stereo system with solid bass and excellent mids and highs that will fill up small, medium, and dare I suggest even larger rooms. My room size is 10 x 30 and this set up gets loud quickly with AudioEngines very loud at around 75%. Conclusion - I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile (whatever that is) and I have a very sophisticated system where I typically listen to hi res music. I never dabbled in PC audio until Covid had me strapped into my office at home. So I got involved with the AudioEngines on a whim and boy I could not be happier. In addition to the above the detail, imaging and stereo separation in these speakers is fantastic. Audio quality is just outstanding. You do need to break them in a bit and the manual suggests 40 - 50 hours before you critically listen. But once I added the Volumio Dac, plus the sub I was simply astounded by the quality of this set up.

After months of putting off buying speakers and many hours searching the web, reading reviews on a range of desktop speakers i finally decided on the Audioengine A2+ speakers. I cant say you'd be disappointed with the choice, at least i wasn't in the slightest! First off the unboxing was impressive, with the speakers coming secured well in protective packaging and wrapped in microfibre cloth soft to the touch, with another 2 microfibre bags storing the connecting wires, the first impressions oozed a premium feel with these great microfibre carrying bags. The little speakers pack great audio, with a well rounded and crisp range of sound and considering the size of these little guys the base isn't bad at all! if you're a hardcore basehead you may need an external sub but for the regular user for the home office these are perfect in this size and produce amazing sound these put out considering their small form factor. Any audiophile will appreciate this great desk addition and make sitting at your desk all that more inviting and leaving you not want to get out your seat! The design of these blend in and look and feel very study, solid and most important quality. The problem i found personally when looking for desktop speakers is the majority don't compliment the desk and look out of place, tend to not look at nice and feel a bit cheap. This is certainly not the case with the A2s, they are a good weight in the hand, and the finish of the speakers is high end, from the smooth outer shell encasing the entire body to the drivers and back panels, you can tell these are premium quality and they sound as good as they look if not better! I wouldn't expect these to produce any rattle from weight of them allowing for vibration dampening through the padded underside on the bottoms. The volume control to the rear left isn't so much an issue at all, i adjust it to a certain level on the back and then control the volume though the device i'm using over bluetooth so turning the volume up or down can be done without issue. The setup was super simple to install and connect up to my devices, 5 minute job connecting the power and cable between the speakers and then pairing up to them with a bluetooth device. While they are some of the most pricey speakers when compared to its competitors in this range i believe them to be worth it. The build, sound, easy of use and looks of them top all my expectations and an investment well made with these 10/10 speakers!

Based on public reviews I had high expectations on these. I'm using them with a Windows PC for music, teams meetings and occationally gaming. In reality they are even better than I'd imagined. Very good sharpness and clarity in the mids and highs. The base is of course not "ribcage thumping" but blends in well and is better than I thought. I'm driving it analogously from a Topping DAC. Wireless capabilities not tested.
