The Quintessential 40 pack is a larger version of the Quintessential 30 pack, with a 7.5" wide liner. Our new "Slick" Roll-top is easy to access and close, but still waterproof under extreme conditions. The front Quad pockets are comprised of one bottom volumetric tool pocket and one volumetric catch-all top pocket. Behind the tool pocket lies a flat valuables pocket for keys and wallet. A full length zippered pocket behind these pockets is a great stash pocket for your lock or Ipad. Our front Storm Shield tucks away when not in use and zips down when needed for rain protection or a high visibility panel in traffic. The side panels on the Quintessential 40 have attachment webbing points for various accessory side pockets. Comfort and stability are enhanced with the new highly contoured back panel and ergonomic shoulder pads. Quintessential 40 comes in Men's Medium and Large sizes to give you a superior fit. All Velo Transit backpacks and panniers are waterproof, modular and can be outfitted with various accessories. Velo Transit designs and builds 100% of our products right here in Seattle, WA, U.S.A.

The upper outer pouch fits my u lock and cable easily. The bottom pouch is roomy for tools chain ...
I commute by bike (24 miles average per trip). I decided I needed to upgrade my backpack. I got my backpack yesterday. I test packed it with my normal commute items Lots of room leftover for other stuff including lunch. Honestly room enough for a few grocery items or take out on the way home. The upper outer pouch fits my u lock and cable easily. The bottom pouch is roomy for tools chain and the like. A foldable tire might even fit. The zip pounces behind each pouch previous mentioned pouch are roomy as well. The upper one will fit a kindle and/surface maybe both. The bottom a small book or the like. The yellow rain flap is awesome. The Velcro for the laptop pouch is nice. I am thinking about purchasing the optional pouch for that. When I put it on and adjusted the straps I thought WOW it feels like a part of me. The zippers are solid. It has a solid attachment point for a taillight. There are Lots straps and tie down points. Both the waist belt and sternum belt are comfy. Velo Transit did a great job

and can't say enough good things about it
I've had this for about 6 months now, and can't say enough good things about it. It is very well built, and will likely last me for years. The main compartment is beautifully water resistant. I could imagine that submerging it in water for a long period of time might breach the main compartment, but short of that you're good to go. I've had expensive electronics in both that and the large side compartment during pouring down rain, and everything was bone dry. My only complaint is that the deployable rain flap is difficult to fold back up into its built-in storage.Something else to note is that on each side of the bag are two strips of webbing which are almost 6 inches apart. So you can actually mount molle accessories on the sides, provided the accessories have built-in straps. I was not able to use the Blackhawk speed clips, because they are slightly the wrong distance apart. However, I was able to connect a water bottle pouch and a utility pouch with no issues.

Finally!
Very nice, and unique. Gone through 3 backpacks this year, a Chrome messenger bag, a fox 5200 hiking pack and a timbuk2 roll top. None of them offer me the ease of getting into and out of that this pack does, nor its bevy of zippered compartment with the option of attaching stuff to the sides. It's been a real headache for me to carry groceries and my locks and having to fool around and cram all that stuff into other packs and sinch it down and clip it up a Velcro it... Only to have it hang loose like a car trunk packed with a 70 inch tv and held shut with rope. Tired tired tired of doing that and this pack solved it for me with its ample space, and convienient roll top. Only wish it had one more compartment in the main pouch, to maybe put wet or dirty clothes. Easily solved with a stuff sack or bag, minor gripe. Love this pack!

Ideal backpack - waterproof and durable
This is a well built backpack. I've used it in snow and rain and everything inside stays dry. I use it on my bicycle and also on day hikes. Lots of nice zippered pockets. Fits well. Just ideal really.

Great pack, very well made.
Comfortable, spacious and very water proof. I'd give it 5 stars except that I usually ride with a hydration pack and this one does not have those features. In the winter when I am using an insulated thermos, it won't matter as much as it does in the summer.
