Do they have a timer?

No timer. Also, only half of them worked. I even tried to change out the batteries, and that didn't help. I would not purchase this item again.

Can these lights be put into the tub with you in the tub?

I don’t see why not. I put them in vases with orbeez. Now if they are in tub there is nothing to hold them still so be careful you don’t sit or step on them. Not sure if the pose another hazard so beware. Contact manufacturer to be safe.

Open up and remove the paper covering the batteries. Then replace top and screw on. Turning a bit turns it on and off. I did have a couple that did not work at all.
