Synopsis Limburg wears comic camouflage to stalk serious subjects, from envy and guilt to bereavement and its tangled aftermath. Her often boisterous poems celebrate the defiant vulnerability of modern women, exploring their lives as daughters, mothers, friends and rivals.

From the heart
From the opening poem 'An Afterlife', which addresses the death of the poet's father, to the sequence culminating with 'Sisyphus' Daughter' which concludes the anthology and revisits this heartbreaking theme, Joanne Limburg's debut is a masterclass on how poetry can bring understanding to the tragedies and tribulations of everyday life. If this makes 'Femenismo' sound depressing and hard work, then the opposite is true! Limburg possesses that rarest of talents: she is able to tackle thorny subjects (bereavement, religion, envy, harrassment) with the lightest touch, making you laugh as often as she makes you think. If you've never approached contemporary poetry before, I can't imagine a better collection to start with. If you're an aficionado, then Limburg's collection will soon find a place among your all-time favourites. This is real poetry, and recommended without reservation.
