What takes place after The Yokohama Disturbance in the anime?
Names were used in both the anime and the Light Novels and now these people appear. It is exciting and the twists of fate keep Tatseya and his sister in the center of the action. A unique problem comes to Japan and the USNA Magical Combat Teams are not far behind. Great reading and a page turner that leaves you wanting the next volume NOW! (Volume 10 won't be due out until December 18, 2018 with Volume 11 coming in mid-March of 2019!)

Good start of the arc
The story starts with explaining how the Americans are worried about events in earlier books, starting a dangerous experiment and sending exchange students over to find out whether or not it was magic and if so which magician cast the spell. Angelina Kudou Shields is send over to Japan as an exchange student, she is also Sirius, the leader of the American magical elite military unit. Things get even more complicated when "vampires" arrive on the scene, killing innocent civilians and triggering a massive hunt in which Tatsuya is drawn because Leo was attacked by one.As usual the story is briliant in its world building. Small tidbits are revealed at logical places of the story, showing a grim and dark world under a veneer of civility. New characters are carefully introduced or deepened and we get to see the story more from other peoples' perspectives then in previous parts. It also includes some good action scenes and as always I enjoy the magic system. I like how the people are complex, the absense of Japanese light novel/anime trope characters and how the main character has actual male friends. The sister/brother relation might be a bit disturbing, but it fits the world since it seems to be mostly the result of genetic and magical manipulation of both as young childeren to both increase their magic and to keep them under control. The ending is a bit abrupt, even though not a cliffhanger, so I would advice to read all three parts of the arc at the same time. The story can at times also be a bit slowed down by the world building details. I find it a bit odd on the reasoning on why a military force would send soldiers for what is basically the work of a spy. It makes a good story, and fits the idea of rediculously competent high schoolers (which the author admits is a bit far fetched). It wouldn't have a high chance of success. The conflict between the two factions of Japanese authorities seem a bit odd as well. It seems a bit extreme. There is also relatively little Tatsuya, he is but a bystander at first by design. Still it gives the opportunity to see some of the characters involved in the story.Still, a great continuation of the story.

Superb manga and lite novel. The anime rocks too.
I love this series. Lots of action plenty of humor and just the right amount of romance. There is a little bit of insestuous behavior between the main character and his sister. Really though it is cute and doesn't really go anywhere she just doesn't really have the guts to do anything about her feeling for her brother. Great series if you get the chance watch the anime.

Good setup.
Like all the part 1's in this series, this is a good setup for more interesting things to happen in the conclusion.

Need more Tatsuya!
I did something rare--I pre-ordered this book. And I promptly forgot about it until vol. 9 was downloaded into my 1st gen paperwhite device. But it was worth the wait! The aptly named Visitor Arc introduces a new element--the United States of North America (USNA). The author jumps through hoops to introduce important characters from USNA and take them to Japan for a meet-and-greet with Tatsuya and co. (or not). Heh.This volume picks up after the events of the Yokohoma arc, with an emphasis on Tatsuya's personal involvement raising alarms across the big pond. The story can, admittedly, be tough to follow at times because the author spends time setting up a possible major conflict between USNA and Japan by jumping around through various POVs. To a certain degree, Tatsuya, the main character in this series, became a bystander (and he's perfectly happy with that). Hence, the title of this review. The saving grace for this book, though, is how the author sets up a certain conflict in the latter half of the book and nails the execution.Vol. 9 of the Irregular at Magic High School introduces a new foreign element and introduces an important new character to the series whose character flaws can be comedic at times. If you're a fan who had read the previous eight releases in this series, this book will be delightful to you.

Visitor Arc is the best in the series so far
I did something with the Visitor Arc that I have never done before. Immediately after completing the amazing book three, I took book one off of my bookshelf and started reading it all over again. Getting to know the Lina/Angie character better really enriched my experience when I re-watched the movie, too.

l love it!
After watching the anime on Netflix I wanted to know more. This is my first light novel and I'm impressed, I bought this whole arc but now I fear that it won't be enough!! I'll have to buy the 15 books! I just love Tatsuya, Miyuki and Shizuku too much. Some important scenes have art! There's one at the end that is absolutely adorable.
