Works Perfectly
After reading the other reviews I was a tiny bit worried about this puller, but decided to go for it. This PLCC puller works perfectly. Despite with others say, this is absolutely spring assisted as the description states. Based on the number of reviews saying its not, I can only assume that those users do not know how to use a spring assisted PLCC puller. Non-spring assisted ones look nothing like this one. The outside black handle is the spring assist mechanism.Usage is simple. You place the tool over the chip. Hook the steel hooks under the chip, rest the tool on top the chip/socket. You'll notice the black outer handle has flat sections that rest on the PLCC socket. At this point you just squeeze. You do not need to pull up at all! This is the spring assist mechanism. When you squeeze it pushes the black part down which lifts the steel hooks up and the chip pops right out.My guess is the reviewers saying their is no spring assist is because they don't understand the tool operation. There are other PLCC tools that use spring mechanisms and operate different, but they also look nothing like this one. Have confidence that this tool will work provided the size is correct for your chip.

It works well enough.
Works well for removing most IC's. It can remove the main chip from an arduino UNO, and it does it quite well. The price is nice too. I bought 3 of them because I know that I'd lose one at some point.

works but kinda cheap
A bit wobbly, flimsy. Does their job but feel like they may break in my hand sometimes...

Needs better QA but mostly works
I needed to remove a PLCC32 IC from its socket so I bought this. I was able to use it to extract the IC but it wasn’t easy.I applied the usual method of using an extractor: insert the hooks into the slots, maintain a firm downward pressure, squeeze the sides of the extractor. Doing this, one of the hooks kept slipping out of the slot. Turns out this extractor was manufactured unevenly. You can see how lopsided it is in my photo, and the resulting scratches on top of the IC.So while I was able to get the job done, I was disappointed with the manufacturing quality.

Great tool
Perfect for the job. Smaller ends to access the chip and pull it out.

Works great
I use this to remove the computer chips on my VW TDI (diesel) car. It works great and I don't have to worry about damaging the chips when I swap them.

Don't waste your money
The description is wrong. It's not spring assisted and because of that is difficult to use.
