Precision in Every Cut: The Ultimate Paper Cutter for Crafting Perfection
I recently acquired this paper cutter, and it's truly a game-changer for my crafting projects. Having damaged my previous cutter while attempting to slice through heavy cover cardstock, I was on the hunt for a replacement and this one has surpassed my expectations. The folding-out base is a standout feature, effectively doubling the measuring area, which is incredibly beneficial when working with full-size paper sheets and larger cardstock. The built-in base with its precise measuring guides significantly aids in achieving accurate cuts every time. The robust construction of this cutter instills confidence with each use. It delivers impeccably clean cuts, allowing for the conservation of paper and the creation of fine details without any waste. In fact, it played a crucial role in salvaging card bases I thought were ruined by my old cutter. Being able to fix those and add fine details was an absolute delight. I've been a longtime user of this company's crafting tools and have always been impressed with their customer service. While the cost initially made me hesitant, my extensive experience with paper cutters has taught me the value of a high-quality tool, particularly when it comes to achieving those precise, fine cuts. For those working with heavier paper, this cutter's performance is astonishing. It managed to make a fine cut on embossed heavy cover cardstock – a feat that most paper cutters struggle with. If you’re contemplating whether to invest in this cutter, I wholeheartedly recommend taking the plunge. The precision blade and guidelines ensure beautifully straight cuts, making this an investment you won’t regret. It’s not just a paper cutter; it’s an essential tool for anyone serious about their crafting.

The paper cutter I needed.
This paper cutter is the 3rd one I have purchased over the years. I believe it will be my last. The first Fiskars paper cutter I purchased was fine when I was first making cards. That Fiskars cutter has a rotary blade. At that point I really didn’t realize how accurate I wanted the paper cut. As I began making more and more cards I upgraded to another Fiskars cutter. The surface and markings are swell. That ended up being less accurate than my first cutter and would sometimes shred the edge of the paper. I wasn’t impressed. I DID start looking at my first Fiskars cutter. What I really like about it is the rotary blade. Deciding I still wanted a Fiskar’s cutter with a rotary blade I located the one that I think will be my last. This cutter has so many fine features. And extended work area, (advertised as) a rotary blade that never needs to be replaced, it is easy to use, accurate and sturdy. I have only been using it for a week but I do not intend to ever use the one without the rotary blade. My cuts are accurate to the nth degree. I make a ton of cards that are contributed to Cards For Soldiers. The cards are sent to soldiers in far off deployed areas. I want them to have a nice looking card that they’re happy to send to anyone.

Happy So Far...
I have only been using the Fiskars 100580-1002 Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer, 12 Inch for a week, but have used multiple times daily, and so far, am really happy. Having owned a variety of paper cutters, I can say by comparison, this one cuts with excellent accuracy (meaning STRAIGHT). The footprint is a bit larger than I was expecting, but for me, straight cuts trump size. I also appreciate the self-sharpening blade, as constantly having to purchase replacement blades was my major complaint for another cutter I owned. Two mentions of interest - 1. This cutter claims to cut thick materials, but pay close attention to the materials listed because THICK chipboard/cardboard is not among them. 2. The blade mechanism is not a completely effortless glide, but once you come to expect the 'resistance,' it becomes easier to use. Also, in case anyone is debating between the Cutterpillar Crop and this cutter -- go for this one. A year ago, after the same debate, I chose the other... which appeared great at first, but quickly quit living up to the hype -- cuts were always just a whisker off, becoming more so with time, gridlines were difficult to see, the light was only useful with white or very light-colored paper, and the manufacturer's customer service was less than stellar. Fiskars on the other hand stands behind its products without question. All in all, I wish I hadn't waited so long to make this purchase. FYI - I took a chance and ordered this 'used' from amazon's warehouse and saved nearly $15. The plastic 'window' on front of the factory-sealed packaging was cracked. That's it. The box itself was still factory-sealed, and the cutter was brand new/perfect.

Update note on heavy materials - Great Heavy Duty Trimmer!
My update 3/15/23 I’ve used this workhorse a lot since I bought it a few years ago? It will cut several layers of medium to heavy card stock at once. The heavier the paper load gets, however, the more difficult pushing the blade will get. I haven’t used it to cut chip board, but I have occasionally used it to cut typical cardboard (1 layer) from card board boxes and it will do ok. But honestly to regularly cut cardboard and any heavier paper product such as chip board, I would recommend getting out your craft knife or a super sharp box knife (with a self healing mat or other hard surface you don’t getting cut into underneath) and line up a metal ruler against the edge of your substrate and carefully cut, at least part, half or all the way through. If you only cut part way through…turn it over and do the same and you’re done! Even though this is a heavy duty cutter, it isn't heavy duty in the commercial sense (and always needing to cut heavy substrates may just require an investment in commercial grade or at least truly heavy duty cutter..) That means that it’s not really designed to cut the heaviest materials on a regular basis without it falling apart or getting wonky or damaged. That’s my 2 cents since I’ve now had it awhile. ———- So far, this trimmer is true to all the other great reviews. It's more of a professional grade product with it's heavier weight and sturdier construction and all the guides to assist in aligning. And it is very sharp, although I haven't tested cutting more than one sheet of cardstock at the time. If you do a lot of paper trimming and straight and neat cuts are important the first time, I would recommend this trimmer. I had smaller rotary cutter and it was OK, but was not very heavy duty and I had to go back and trim some more (either to straighten it up or trim some fuzziness) too many times. As I ramp up my small crafting business, I need a more pro-level trimmer that will save me time. I do check around and Amazon had the best price with Prime shipping.

Updated review! / Alignment guides are crooked
Updated 9/29/22 I received a replacement trimmer and noticed right away that the alignment guide was installed correctly in this unit. I was thrilled to finally get to use this cutter. Unfortunately the blade is not sharp. It shreds the edges of regular paper and curls down the edges of cardstock when you cut it. You can not sharpen the blade easily or replace it at all. It's "self sharpening", non replaceable. So, I'm officially done with this trimmer. It's packed up and waiting to be returned. I will be getting the Cutterpillar and giving it a try. ------------------------------------ Original review below: I must say that I totally love this trimmer. I have had several different styles of trimmers over the years and this is by far the best I have owned. It cuts through everything that I want to use it for and it makes nice sharp clean edges. There is only one problem... The alignment line labels were installed crooked. If you line your paper up along the bottom or top edge you will notice that the alignment lines under the clear plastic base are off by 1/16" to 3/32". If you align your paper to the lines you will get a crooked cut everytime. If you align it to the bottom and the beginning of the alignment line you will get a straight cut. I decided to try working around this but I decided that after a week of everyday use that as much as I paid for this trimmer that I should not have to compromise. I am returning for an exchange in the hopes that the next one will be correctly installed. I can look at it and see it is misaligned. There have been other reviews that state the trimmer cuts crooked. It cuts straight but the alignment is incorrect. Shame on Fiskars for putting out such a product. If my next one is also misaligned I will give up and get the Cutterpillar. The lines on the Cutterpillar are molded into the base so there will be no alignment issues. Stay tuned...

Worth the money
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I have bought more cutters recently that were a disappointment. I finally decided to spend a little more money on a better one. The reviews i read prior to purchase were so positive that i decided to give it a try. It is pretty big and heavy but it accurately and easily cuts your paper. The blade is self-sharpening so no more dull blades either!! A purchase I am glad I made.

Very happy!
Arrived timely, very well wrapped! I have cut the Grafix Medium Wt Chipboard (a thick book cover weight - https://www.amazon.ca/Grafix-Chipboard-12-Inch-Natural-25-Pack/dp/B0013JRFUA) - it was amazing! Easy to do multi-sheets of cardstock, but you have align properly. There is a grid and the plate folds for easy storage. Still like light weight trimmers for single sheets/cardstock, but this rocks for thick material. It is sturdy and the slicing feels different than a light weight cutter. Not sure how long the blade will last. The 12x12 plate is great - so you can do a lot with it, other than matt cutting which is a different tool. Definitely splurge if you need to do thick materials. This was a good price at the time of my purchase ($112 Can). The only way to get it cheaper is thru a Michael's 50% day, assuming they have it in stock and it is not on sale at the time. They didn't have it at the time I wanted this, but without a discount they were charging $170. I highly recommend this product and this supplier! As a tip: don't press the plastic shield toward the blade as you will slice some of the plastic as you slice your product. Just hold it straight down or if anything push away.

Absolutely the best!
This is quite easily the best trimmer I have ever used. It cuts through tough material like chipboard and magnetic sheets like butter, but can also trim the smallest sliver from even printer paper. I can absolutely say I love it! I'll hopefully edit this review later as I see how the blade lasts over time, but for now I'm saying bye-bye to my other paper trimmers!

Simply the best
I am over the moon with my cutter. I must admit I had to get used to it, but love it. I’ve been looking at getting one for a long time. Cuts so much easier than the normal trimmer. You can get the smallest slither cut off your paper with no drama. Look forward to not buying blades all the time with this being self sharpening. Best purchase for crafting by far…and cheapest on Amazon!!

Excelente!!!
