DelMonico Boater Straw Hat

At the turn of the century and right through the 1930s it was a summer standard for well dressed men everywhere to don one of these straw "boaters".Today, it’s definitely a unique hat that sets the wearer apart from the crowd typically seen wearing baseball caps!Personally speaking, I would avoid wearing it with a wide striped shirt or bold striped jacket simply because the look harkens an image of a jazz musician or member of a Barber Shop Quartet…but hey, if you are cool with that then go with it!It really looks best when worn with a summer suit or light colored blazer and for a more casual look…if worn with a white shirt with rolled sleeves and open collar.I will wear mine both for style and to cover my head during the hot summer months.These ‘boaters' are classy and they say something about the wearer. That is, they say that the wearer is self-confident as to who he is and secure in the image he projects to the world around him.

Classic boater in every sense. Made in Italy, correctly stiff, beautiful band. The hat is well finished with a full lining and fits pretty true to size.The color of the straw is quite pale, not at all yellow and definitely not tan or brown (as the Brooks Brothers version is). Very slightly off-white, if anything. Exactly what a boater should be, nothing more, nothing less.The hat was shipped promptly and got to me much more quickly than I was expecting. It is shipped double boxed and arrived in perfect condition.

More expensive than other hard straw hats, but the workmanship make this hat well worth the price. The straw is lighter and brighter and the weave is tighter than my previous hard straw hat which retailed at one half the cost of this hat.

Quality hat and excellent customer service. Contacted DelMonico explained a little large and they shipped me hat band adjusters within a couple days. Nice product!

Truly excellent, and would be perfect with two small adjustments:* The lining and sweatband are very flimsily attached, and show signs of wear after barely two months.* It would cost the manufacturer next to nothing to back the sweatband with a little soft foam to ensure a perfect fit, as it is one must fiddle with padding.

I used to buy a new boater every year at Brooks Brothers but haven't owned one for decades. Just for fun I sprung for this one. My head is pretty big (Euro size 63 long oval) but this fit perfectly front to back. A little bit wide on the sides but when the hat came there was a suggestion in the box that if it was a little too big they would send soft strips to stick inside the sweat band. That worked. Workmanship and materials excellent, the box they sent it in works fine as a hat box so the edges won't get damaged in the closet. All in all a perfect shopping on line experience.

Random people want to take pictures with me everywhere I go. Great investment! Don't buy the cheaper version of this hat. This is pure quality!!!!

A truly wonderful & fine quality Boater, but was slightly oversized when received. To be sure of proper fit, I traveled to the DelMonico Shop in CT and they had one to fit my head perfectly. They exchanged it without question & I left very pleased!!
