Great content but the "very good" condition was not great

This is not about the content of the book - which is great! But the experience with the seller was less than perfect. I try to buy used books to help our Earth wasting less paper - so I always look for books in "very good" or "good" condition. This was advertised as "very good". It was NOT! It is totally dirty, like someone dragged it through the mud before selling it. Then I looked inside and it does not get any better; the pages are dirty, almost blackened, and bend.I will keep it because it is about the content, but it makes me sad that people treat books in this way.

A Great and Thoroughly Comprehensible Read on Christian Theology

I started reading this book for one of those free classes Dallas Theological Seminary offers online on the topic of Scriptural inerrancy. It is a rare book when it comes to theology books because it is quite understandable. The writers are clearly brilliant theologians who are not trying to show us how smart they are (and they are), but rather trying to help the reader to understand. I loved this book. It basically deals with two topics, Scriptural inerrancy and the Trinity. These are two of the most complex things for Christians to understand and yet Holsteen and company do a great job of breaking it down. I love how they assembled this book. Each of the two sections are broken down into nine sections: an introduction, a high altitude survey, passages to master, the topic in retrospect, facts to never forget, dangers to avoid, principles to put into practice and voices from the past and present (snippets from great thinkers on the topic from across the centuries and the four periods of church history). Finally, each section contains a few pages of recommended books on the topic in question. This is one of the most readable and comprehensible books on theology I have read. I am looking forward to picking up the other two books in this series. On last thing, don't skip over the glossary of terms. This is a wealth of information on all the various movements and schools of thought in the history of the church. This is a great book and a must read for anyone wanting to take their faith knowledge to a deeper level.

Fit for the family bookshelf!

Worth the price just for the reading lists at the end of each section. A reasonably complete and fair overview of conservative evangelical thought in each area covered. For contemporary evangelicals who are characteristically allergic to creeds and confessions, this is an excellent starting place. There is an effort to incorporate historical perspective on each major doctrinal issue as well. This is a very readable and surprisingly thorough set, especially given its brevity.

This book is an excellent tool for the Christian's responsibility given in 1 Peter ...

This book is an excellent tool for the Christian's responsibility given in 1 Peter 3:15... "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,". It is more of a Theology Handbook than textbook and that is what makes it appealing and useful by providing solid arguments for why we can trust God's Word while promoting the Biblical admonition of doing so with gentleness and respect.

Good Introduction to Theology

This book gives the reader a good introduction theology. Topics include the inerrancy of the Bible, the Trinity, and the history of the fall and redemption. A little difficult to read at times, but well worth the effort.

Used It In Our Small Group!

Great book! Our small group used this book and the supplementary "field guide" provided on Dr Svigel's website. We found the book to be "deep" yet also practical. This and volumes 2 and 3 are a requirement for every library.

a great place to begin your study of theology

Of the eight text books I have for my first course in theology, this is the most readble. This is the only one that gave me any reason to laugh. The authors have taken a difficult subject, distilled truth, and served it in a palatable form while retaining the serious nature of the subject matter. Not confusing, informative, part of a series.
