Product Description While the band's musical path continues to explore traditional pagan metal, it proves to be much more resolute and aggressive than ever before. The characteristic clean sound of both Heidevolk vocalists recounts the stories comprising "Batavi", while heavy guitars, thundering drums, and folk melodies build the foundation of each track: at times sweeping and at others melancholic. Peter Tägtgren's mix masterfully defined the band's sound on this 2012 release. For fans of FINNTROLL, KORPIKLAANI, ARKONA, and TURISAS "Motivational folk metal....infinitely enjoyable." - DECIBEL MAGAZINE Review "Motivational folk metal....infinitely enjoyable." --Decibel Magazine

Different but still good
I've been following in this band since I discovered their first album a little bit after it was released. Batavi is the first of their albums I bought without first hearing it. After three full length albums with roughly the same sound Batavi represents a shift in composition. The album is still clearly Heidevolk, the signature singing is still there, though it feels like there is less harmonizing of the two singers. The biggest standout for me was the shift in drums, not only is it stronger in mix but (forgive my lack of technical knowledge) seems to follow a simpler rhythmic pattern from song to song. Overall the album seems to have less energy, the musicians don't seem to be as in to it and it shows in the songs. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come.

Like other posts mentioning the vocals
Like other posts mentioning the vocals, I was waiting for some higher register, louder parts. Still though, worth 5 starts with the solid melodies, great musical parts (which the artist clearly wants us to focus on with the way they've organized songs), and balanced range of fast/slow songs. Probably their fastest most technical work, too. Keeps me coming back for more, definitely my favorite of theirs.

Heidevolk!
I came across Heidevolk on Youtube and totally fell in love with the bands sound and the vocals. I was excited to know that they had a new album in the works. From listening to their first 3 albums over and over. I would have to say 'BATAVI' has the heavier sound and this time they delivered it with an old school 'Thrash' sound, Yes! it still is Heidevolk and Yes! it sounds great, but i honestly prefer their older 'Folky' material. 'BATAVI' is showing Heidevolk playing in a different direction! Either way i will always support the group that got me into Folk Metal ;)If you are new to this band of well crafted musicians, try their first 3 albums! All available here on Amazon >.<

Awesome Dutch language metal.
I have been in an out of the Netherlands a lot. So I am already biased because I got awesome Dutch language folk metal I can practice with. A great band from the Gelderland region all in all. It is their 4rth and their stroungest release by far. Their previous 3 albums are also great, but they've certainly topped it with Batavi. Their sound is a little bit black metal, but the vocals are 2 male singers with the deep melodic voice.

Great blend of industrial metal and european folk
Great blend of industrial metal and european folk. Rammstein with fiddles. Great stuff, deep baritone / bass vocals. Strange harmonies. A great recording that sounds heavy and bright. Definitely recommended.

Folk Metal!
One of the great Folk/Viking/Pagan Metal bands of our time. A great addition to any fellow Heathen, I always felt like I was born in the wrong time period, but these guys know how to bring you back with their music
