Brilliant, emotional, and full of heart.
Romanov is a heart wrenching story of love, loss, freedom and what it means to hold true to your values, ethics, and morals even in the direst circumstances. While this story is labeled YA Fantasy and Historical fiction, I have to say it is heavy on the historical fiction (85%) and the fantasy is the other (15%). If you love history, if you are curious about mysteries and how they might have turned out then this is the story for you.I fell in love with the Romanovs (the real ones) from an early age and I have been obsessed with them ever since. This story called to me on every level and didn’t disappoint. The story in and of itself is about the heart of the Romanov and their love for their family and their country despite the change in values, and leadership. Most of the story (about 3/4) takes place in exile and though the eyes of the Romanov’s. As they come to terms with their new life, they still have hope for their future and love for their people (even if it feels like betrayal at times). I loved the humility of the Tsar and of this family, there is just something so amazing about people who have still be positive when the world is falling apart. The story eventually progresses to that ultimate outcome (the one we know happened) but with a twist. This is where most of the magic comes in; and what magic it is! I loved where the author decided to take the story. The ending brightens the darkness of the story’s moments.I think the story wouldn’t have been as success for me if the author haven't kept as true to the facts and people as she did. The story is about the Romanov’s and their strength and the fact that in real life they were as amazing as they could be. She kept the history and the heart the same and only added a touch of magic as to how many of us would have liked the real story to end.Sad, realistic, moving, haunting, hopeful, strength and love are all present in this story and really moved me in ways I never saw coming. This has made my favorites list and I will come back to this heartfelt story again and again. Five magic stars.

Like no Anastatia Story you've ever read!
Okay, that was epic! Like wow! I'm gonna try and write a coherent review but wow! That was so much fun and heartwrenching and just...I love Nadine Brandes' books! Or at least Romanov and Fawkes!Characters:This was told in first person POV and was through Nastya's POV. It was really good! I really enjoyed getting to know her and her tricks and her motives for everything she did. I loved her! She is officially one of my all-time favorite female characters!I loved Zash! There were moments when I didn't trust him, but he won my heart in the end!!!!I LOVED Alexei he is just, love this guy! He may only be 13 but his wisdom and strength are beyond his age!The Romanov family in general was so well written, I loved the bond that they all shared, and the way they treated the soldiers guarding them was beautiful. Their little saying about their family names (which I will butcher if I try to put it here) was so sweet!!!!Plot:This was a different retelling of the Romanov story and I really enjoyed it, and the fantasy twist added to it. That being said the fantasy element involved spells, but the kind the word brings to mind, it was more they had spell ink and wrote the words down, then could use the words to heal and other such things. I found that element intriguing. It was a very unique approach and I didn't see anything wrong with it myself. The otherside of the plot is forgiveness, a huge dose of that is stirred in and it is beautiful how Mrs. Brandes incorporates it all and ties it together in the end!!!Language:N/ARomance:There are two kisses, but nothing much. There are feeling described and recognized as dangerous due to the Romanov situation and it was very well done! I enjoyed that aspect of the book.Overall:I really enjoyed Romanov! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good YA book that blends genres, or just anyone looking for a good book! The story is beautiful! I really enjoyed it! :)

Surpreendente e apaixonante!

An interesting twist on the Anastasia story
"The history books say I died. They don't know the half of it".History, magic, revolution, imprisonment and a little romance makes this book as endearing as the tales of Anastasia, the Russian Princess you have seen at the movies. This is the story of the last days of the Romanov family, through the eyes of the youngest daughter, Grand Duchess Anastasia, "Nastya". Though we all know how it ends for the family, this is a wonderful story of a family devoted to each other and their country. The author shows us a caring, compassionate side to the royal family of Russia and you can't help but fall for them all. This tale of how Nastya and Alexei survived the execution is intriguing. Magic is intertwined with reality and brings this story to a new life. The author cleverly manipulates the plot to explain how the impossible, could have been possible and gives you hope that maybe, just maybe, this is how it played out. This story has fascinated me for a long time. It is like reading Romeo and Juliet, hoping the end will be different, but ultimately it isn't. This story changes the ending and gives you that sense of 'happily every after', you know this family did not get to have. The author has made this family seem normal and not all the uncaring aristocracy they were thought to be by the Bolsheviks. It was because of their blood, they had to die. But it is nice to imagine that impish Nastya survived and outwitted them all.
