MR FUNK COMBINES MANY ELEMENTS OF HIS CLASSIC FRANTIC DRUM PROGRAMMING(AND A LOT OF NATURAL SKINS AND JAZZY DRUMS) WITH HIS GOTHIC/CLASSICAL SYNTHESIS. I DISAGREE WITH THE REVIEW SAYING THIS IS HIS MOST ACCESSIBLE EFFORT--(I THINK AN ALBUM LIKE "MY SO CALLED LIFE" OR "BELLY OF THE SNAKE" OR EVEN DETRIMENTALIST" WOULD BE IN THAT REALM. WITH THIS RELEASE IT MAY SEEM MORE LAID BACK OR NOT SO CONSTANTLY FRANTIC BUT I FEEL IT IS MORE SPACED OUT AND STRUCTURED DIFFERENTLY(ALMOST IN A TRADITIONAL SONG FORM BUT THROUGH THE DEMENTED VISION OF MR FUNK. I CATEGORIZE MR FUNK IN SEVERAL WAYS. 1. HIS COMPLETELY INSANE DARK HORRORCORE HARDCORE STUFF LIKE "FIND CADENCE" OR "MEATHOLE'2. HIS EXPERIMENTAL WILD DRUM STUFF LIKE "PINK AND GREEN" AND "SONG ABOUT MY CATS"3. THEN THERE IS THE SERIOUS STUFF LIKE 'CYLINDER BOX UNFOLDING" ALBUM AND CUBIST REGGEA"4. THEN THERE IS A CATEGORY THAT IS A COMBO OF SERIOUS AND BIZZARE LIKE THE ONE WITH THE GERMAN NAME I FORGET THE NAME AND THE "HARDCOMEPOMPOM" OR CHOCOLATE WEELCHAIR ' ALBUM(ALTHOUGH SOME OF MY CATEGORIZATIONS OVERLAP AND ARE MEANT NOT VERY LITERALLY) THIS ALBUM FITS NICELY IN THE SERIOUS BUT BIZZARE TITLE-- FOR EXAMPLE RIGHT WHEN U THINK ITS GETTING REALLY SERIOUS HE SAYS COMETHING TO THE EFFECT( MY D***K IS SO HARD IS GOING TO BREAK--OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO LET YOU KNOW HES NOT GOING TO GET TOO SERIOUS WITH THIS RELEASE---THIS ALBUM CONTAINS A LOT OF HIS VOICE WHICH CAN BE SLIGHTLY DISENCHANTING BUT FOR ME IT WORKS BETTER ON THIS ALBUM THAN SAY THE MISFITS COVER OF "SHE" "BELLY OF THE SNAKE" ALBUM OR THE TITLE TRACK TO "HORSEY NOISES"--- I AMA FAN OF MOST OF VENITIAN SNARES MATERIAL EXCEPT FOR SOME OF HIS VOCALS-- HERE HIS VOCALS SEEM TO FIT RIGHT INTO THE GOTHIC LOOK AND FEEL OF THE ALBUM--AND BESIDES HE HAS PREPARED AND HINTED THAT HE WILL BE USING HIS OWN VOICE MORE--(HE DOES HAVE A VERY DANZIG/STRUNG OUTISH SOUND THAT FITS RIGHT IN---MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE 2 OR SO VOCAL TRACKS THAT AT FIRST LISTEN I DIDN'T QUITE LIKE IS THAT EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIS VOCALS YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THE STRANGE COMPOSITION STYLE--HIS COMPOSITIONS AND VERSES ARE JUST SO STRANGELY COMPOSED THAT IS SOUNDS LIKE HE IS SINGING IN A DIFFERENT TIME SIGNATURE THAT THE BEATS MAKING IT TRUELY A UNIQUE COMPOSITION-- I FEEL MR FUNK IS A BRILLIANT COMPOSER AND HE COULD COMPSE ANY TYPE OF MUSIC-- HE MAKES ELECTRONIC MUSIC ALMOST SEEM LIKE AN ONGOING INTRICATE THOUGHT EXPERIMENT THAT IS CONSTANTLY CHALLENGING WHAT A MUSICAL COMPOSITION CAN DO--THIS GUY IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTER OF HIS CRAFT--

Every now and then an artist comes along which changes my perception of music and modifies how I sense everything around me. My first exposure to Venetian Snares in the late 90's came during a time in my life when I was hungry for innovative art and inspiration. Fast forwarding many years, this new Venetian Snares album came along exactly when I needed it. I will be listening to this one a lot.Venetian Snares has always been one of the few electronic music artists who has staying power for me. I go through a lot of music, and for many years I probably listened to 95% of my purchased electronic music once or twice before tossing it in the archives. However, I have listened to many of the Venetian Snares albums over and over for years and they continue to sound fresh and interesting.My favorite complete Venetian Snares albums are The Chocolate Wheelchair Album, Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding, Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms, and Rossz Csillag Alatt Született. Stylistically, I would describe My Love Is A Bulldozer as a hybrid of the last two in that list. After three listens all the way through, my favorite tracks on Bulldozer are "8am Union Station" and "She Runs." However, it is quite a diverse album and most of the tracks are very strong. "8am Union Station" is an emo-acoustic track; it reminds me of waiting on a train platform, still drunk from the night before, after a one night stand. "She Runs" is a raging melodic breakcore acid trip which plunges the listener into a schizophrenic emotional vortex, a patented Venetian Snares style which to me evokes the 2003 - 2006 era.Venetian Snares is not an artist who people feel ambivalently about. People usually find the music either unlistenable or addictive. You either have the gene or you don't. If you don't like any of the other albums, you will probably not like this one. If you are a fan of Venetian Snares, this is a logical progression from previous works.

Venetian Snares has been one of the few artists always pushing the boundaries and doing it completely and unapologetically on his own terms. Each album is full of more new ideas than most artists explore in a career, and at their best create the type of perfect sonic mind trip that any new music junkie craves. This album is no exception, a surrealist collage of film noir, glitchy bleeps, gothic cathedrals, 1000 bpm bass drum, melancholy strings, vinyl heartbreak, evil synths, and as is always to be expected: the most inspired and unbelievably jaw dropping drum programming imaginable.In short, it is completely awesome.It tries the impossible and succeeds, being less like a musical safari and more like a rocket tied to your back. If you've ever been a fan of anything he's done, you have to check this out, this album leaves no room for disappointment. If you don't know his work, this would be a great place to start, but beware, there is no way you won't want more.

Unlike some of his other albums, where he seems focused on unleashing sick, rapid-fire trains of twisted beats and warped misanthropic sounds simply because he can, this album (like Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett) shows Aaron Funk is a true musician, capable of applying his formidable technical skill to articulate genuine, complex thoughts and emotions. Impressive work.
