Daughter loves!
Bought this for my 7.5 year old daughter for first communion. She loves it! She is a high-level reader, so it might not be appropriate for ALL kids at first communion age, but it is kid-friendly.

A gem!
I am so glad Angelico published this little gem! We always give this as a present to any little girls we know who are making their First Holy Communion. Thank you Angelico!

Too violent
Stories are way too graphically violent for young children.

Great saint book
Great stories. My daughters enjoy reading this on their own or having us read aloud. Different from other saint books. Love this book and the one for boys, too.

Easy to read reference
Great text for a child or an adult to learn about a cadre of female saints in the Catholic Church.

Do not buy if you want factual saint stories
I like to read saint stories to my children because I want them to hear about real-life heroes. While many of the saints have truly fantastic stories (in the supernatural sense), this book made me uncomfortable with the blurring of the lines between fact and fiction. The "artistic license" in story-telling and filling in details that couldn't be known was stretched too far for my liking. I kept reading and really wanted to like the book, but decided to return it after reading about St. Rita (who is a patron for difficult marriages because of her own difficult marriage) "Once upon a time there was a woman called Rita and she lived in Italy in a very nice house and garden with her husband whose name was Benedetto, which is Italian for Benedict. They were very happy and they had two little boys..." I am returning this book for something more factual.

Great book
My children (boys and girl) love hearing these stories. Joan Windham has a gift for story telling and adds some humor to each story.

Wish these charming stories could come back into print!
Joan Windham's books on the saints (the 3 volume set and the individual 60 saints for boys and 60 saints for girls drawn from the 3 volume set) are absolutely charming - we have given them to delighted children as first communion presents - the one sadness is that they are out of print, but a proof of how good they are are the high prices used copies now go for. Entertaining and delightful lto read for both children and their parents.
