The Amazing Race: Season 1

I missed seeing the first season on television, so I watched it on Amazon Prime as part of the pandemic binge-watching. I reviewed the blurb for the DVD, and discovered that it contained commentaries from the participants. I bought the DVD, and the commentaries were worth the extra price of getting the DVD over just watching it on Amazon Prime.

Being the first, there are some things that are history. Still, it's exciting to watch the first one.None of the contestants really knew what they were in for, so it makes for great TVEven though my favorite team did not win, I still like the winners.They were no sneaky or dishonorable, like Team Guido. I hated them.I think they got caught up on being in front of the camera all the time.They did some nasty things on the record, then passive-aggressively justified their evil deeds.They forgot it was all caught on film. Hahahaha.

I absolutely loved the first season of The Amazing Race. You'll get an adrenaline rush as you watch teams of two travel around the world under dire conditions, through many obstacles, setbacks, roadblocks and detours. You'll watch as poor judgment, over confidence and cockiness cause front runners to lose their lead while strong will, determination and good karma help save the underdogs from elimination. There's tons of extra footage not previously seen on TV and behind the scenes commentary from the contestants.Warning: If you're viewing this season for the first time and don't know the outcome, DO NOT look at the photos on the covers as they highlight the front runners and give way to the ultimate outcome.A few of the stand out contestants:Frank & Margarita: My favorite teamKevin & Drew: Those guys were laugh out loud funny. You really can't teach that kind of humor.Joe & Bill (AKA Team Guido): The team we loved to hate.

Not the Amazing Race that we come to know and love but the very early ideas, some of which get abandoned very quickly thankfully (24 hour time penalty) and others that get slightly tweaked as the game goes on.Surprisingly Phil features very little in the first season and I think they understood just how much charisma he actually has and his absence is felt quite keenly in team interactions at the pitstop.Although it is not as massively entertaining as later seasons it is still essential viewing for any fan of the amazing race and as for the eventual winners....

I grew up watching the Amazing Race when I was in high school and now I'm excited to start from the very beginning. The very first season of Amazing Race has captured audiences from around the world. And I wonder if I really want to visit the countries like for example, Paris, France. They go to the Eiffel Tower. But the saddest part of the TV series and that some people have bad days and they take it out on each other. But the best thing they need to look out for is each other every step of the way. If you're a big fan of the Amazing Race and you want to start from the very beginning, The Amazing Race season 1 is the one for you.

The Amazing Race is simply the best reality show out there and this first season is the reason why. Survivor is good, but comes off as boring next to the fast-paced excitement of TAR. There are good reasons why the Race has won two Emmys in a row...it's just no accident. While later seasons smooth out some of the production rough spots of the first race, this one still stands out as the best...great teams, likeable people and, of course, the inevitable "villians". Add to that the thrill of traveling to different areas of the world with all the incredible scenery and interesting locals and you have a show that just can't be beat. This is probably the most anticipated reality show DVD that's been produced so far and I can hardly wait.

If you want to see the world from your couch, you should watch the Amazing Race. I have watched every season (except when they had teams of 4 with kids) and besides the competition, it lets you see the world. Season 1 is sooo good, and there is an interview with the creators on why they started this show. Very good buy for my DVD collection.
