Lots to think about here
It’s not exactly my preferred style, but there is lots to appreciate in this book for lovers of just about any style. I really appreciate their aesthetic that homes are to be lived in and letting things break and get dirty is a privilege, as opposed to a disaster.

feel the warmth
tbh i thought it was going to be another book about rich people with free time having buying something that really needs a lot of work but...it's rather down to earth, pictures of process and gands-on projects are amazing and an overall interesting read. I really like the design of the homes and stores-evn if the style isnt exactly me, to recreate it is not out of budget but really workable esp if your SO is an architect or work in construction.

Beautiful photography, not preachy.
Loved all the light and airy artwork, the variety of materials used in the authors’ homes, the versatile storage pieces.

beautiful, calming book
The book is easy to read and to undertsnad. The pictures are so calming to look at, I can only imagine how amazing it would be living in house desined by the authors.I learned a great deal from this book for my interior design assignments!

California cool, modern, laid back style
Beautiful, inspiring book perfectly capturing that California cool, modern, laid back style. The title is a little misleading as it’s more of an interior design book on this particular aesthetic than a how-to guide on minimalism, but it’s packed with gorgeous photos of light filled spaces and tips on how to achieve the drool-worthy look so popular on Instagram right now. I love this book and will turn to it again and again as we design our next home.

A bit shiny and disappointing
I've been a fan of the General Store and the authors' style for years and eagerly bought this book as a holiday present for myself this year. However, I was a bit disappointed by the overall packaging of the book, which didn't seem to fit with the authors' values of rustic simplicity. I couldn't tell if the book was supposed to just sweep me away with its gorgeous photos or if was a bit of a How to book. Or both? The How to content seemed quite light (like, paint everything white? Really?) and even though the photography is nice, it doesn't quite capture the crunchy hand-built charm you can feel when you step into the authors' spaces, and also doesn't show very many spaces. If the book is only going to feature 3 or 4 buildings, then I would expect a deeper dive into process and more textured photography. Still, I remain a fan of the authors' work and appreciate their giving us a peek into their beautiful homes and lives.
