Do I need to plant oxygenating weed?

No. Bunches arrive in lead or ceramic weights and are dropped straight into the water. They sink, settle on the bottom and start growing without a basket or aquatic soil.

How much oxygenating weed does my pond need?

A rough guide is 3–4 bunches per square metre of surface, so 5–8 bunches for a small 2m² pond. Add more in a pond in full sun and fewer in a shaded one.

Is oxygenating weed safe for goldfish and koi?

Yes. Elodea densa, hornwort and Callitriche are all grazed by goldfish and koi without harm, and give fry somewhere to hide. Heavily stocked ponds need topping up more often.

Which oxygenator is best for a small outdoor pond?

Hornwort is the easiest — rootless, hardy, shade-tolerant and it overwinters in the UK. Elodea densa grows faster in full sun. Callitriche stays short, so it suits shallow water.
