Tech21 Impact Shell Case for Nokia Lumia 521 - Black

I am surprised this cover has not ranked higher in searches for Lumia 521 covers to date. For one thing, the cover is made for the Lumia 521; you don't have to guess if this is really for the shorter Lumia 520. T-Mobile even offers this cover on their site specifically for the Lumia 521. So far this is the better of three cases I have tried for my phone. The first was a two-piece, gummy-hardshell case that is plenty protective and stylish in its own way, but basically turned my slender phone into a brick. I'll still use it if a need arises. The second was a very slim, two-piece hardshell that snapped around the phone. It had a nice graphic design and felt nice in hand, but it did not stay looking good for much more than two months of light use. Unfortunately, it went in the trash. By comparison, this Tech21 cover is really good.This Tech21 cover looks and feels well-made. It's all one piece. I slid my phone into it without a fuss, and it holds the phone securely. The cutouts are perfect; all the ports and other areas that need to be uncovered are accessible. The side buttons are covered. The buttons do need to be pushed firmly, but I honestly have had no problems whatsoever pushing the buttons. I can easily distinguish and push the volume control buttons while the phone is in my pocket. The cover has a matte finish as advertised. It has a smooth (but not velvety) feel and is grippy. It doesn't readily show fingerprints in my experience. This Tech21 cover is heavy compared to my former snap on cover but, unlike my standby brick, it still essentially shows off the basic shape of my phone. I wish it came in more colors than black and glossy bright pink, though.Thankfully, I have not dropped the phone, but it has been tapped on a few hard surfaces while in this cover. It doesn't seem like the phone was any the wiser. I'm fairly confident this cover would do okay with a short fall. The bezel is raised slightly to supposedly protect the screen if the phone falls flat on the face. I have not tried it yet, but I can see where one could still install or remove a screen protector without taking the cover off.In my opinion, there are few really good covers being offered for the Lumia 521 to begin with, so having this cover offered near the lower end of the price spectrum should make the choice that much easier.

Tech 21's D30 material is not advertising hype. This is the grippiest, tightest fitting, most impact resistant case I have tried for Nokia's Lumia 521, with one big drawback: it makes it very hard to push the phone's buttons. How hard is that? I compared this case with  ZoN Hand Grips , and Tech 21 gave me a better workout.Are you an advanced body builder? Do you break things because you don't know your own strength? Would you like to develop a bone-crushing grip, or master Northern Praying Mantis kung fu and kill with your fingertips? Tech 21's D30 Impact Shell Case could be just what you are looking for. My wife refuses to use it. Her  Body Glove Tactic Brushed Case for Nokia Lumia 521 - White/Charcoal  provides less protection but is far more comfortable to use.I rate this case 5 for fit and impact resistance and 1 for comfortable ergonomics.

Fits phone very nice including cutouts. Provides enough grip to keep phone from slipping out of hand but does not stick when putting in and out of pocket. Does not add much bulk to phone and seems like it will protect well. It does make buttons more firm to press, but unless you have arthritis or are an extremely out of shape human being, you should have no problem. I find using left hand to hold and press the most comfortable. Overall, I am very happy with quality and price.

Has a sort of matte feel to it. I like the feel, and the organic satin color. It is a very tough case of average thickness. The only negative is that it is heavy and the camera hole could be a bit smaller.

If you can handle the color this is an excellent case. It's very snug and fits perfectly. It has a good 'grip' with a smooth feel, but it isn't slippery. The raised bezel in front should protect the screen if the phone lands flat on its face. The buttons are covered (no holes) so some may find them a little harder to push, but I like that. It's a real bargain; I bought a black one for another phone at T-Mobile and it was $35.

I wish it came in a different color but it fits my phone perfectly. I had to cut away the cover where the controls are because it was to hard to push the buttons to operate the phone. Other than that it is great !!

It's solid, tough, rubbery and virtually fuses itself to the Lumia's white shell with a perfect fit, adding minimal thickness. When you need to open the phone, both case and shell snap off and on together like a single back cover, but the case can also be easily separated from the shell when needed. Side buttons are harder to press, which can be a plus by preventing pocket dialing.
