Very specialized for those who are professional scuba divers ( maybe in the fire department, or police department.)
This book is specifically written for those Scuba Divers who are in the area of public safety, such as fire fighters or policemen. So, much has to do with TEAM DIVING, search and rescue, passing/transporting an injured swimmer or diver back to shore, crowd control. This is an advanced book. How about this chapter: scuba diving for submerged cars, and other vehicles? Very specialized reading !!Hence, if you are an experienced diver, and have taken the basic, advanced, rescue and master diver courses, then this becomes a great next step. Please note, my guess is that the book is offered to those who have jobs in performing emergency scuba diving. Not for your average vacation guy.Click if you like my post, please.

Learn What Police and Fire SCUBA Teams do and how!
I am not a 'Public Safety Diver'. I leave that for the Police and Fire Department. But I did find this book facinating. It explains how Police SCUBA teams look for drowning victims, guns thrown in the water, how to predict where the currents will take something and a lot of good basic safety tips. Very interesting stuff!

Probably the definitive reference
I trained under Walt Hendrick 4 or 5 years ago and bought this book at the time. I'd been on a few PSD courses before then, but I reckon that none surpassed that offered by "Butch" Hendrick. The contents of this book are an accurate reflection of the techniques he covered. As such, the book is distinctive in that it is focused on tender-lead PSD techniques and related equipment issues. Other books in this subject area, such as those by Teather or Becker, are more focused on forensic procedure. They all have their place on my bookshelf, but Hendrick definitely plugs a gap. A Public Safety Diver is more than a sports diver with forensic training, and Hendrick shows how and why.
