Bedtime Stories

First Saw During 2008 Christmas Season
I was living in Norfolk Virginia during this time and fortunately persuaded my husband to see Bedtime Stories with me at the movie theater(inside the MacArthur Center mall). The bonus features attributed to the Bedtime Stories dvd movie are sneaks on; Double Feature dvd of Dadnapped and Hatching Pete, Morning Light, Disney Princess Protection Program, Walt Disney Pictures; Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure, what looks to be a commercial ad for Disney XD, G-Force, Walt Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney Pixar Monsters Inc., Disney Blue Ray Magic in High-Def, and Disney Magic movie rewards. The actual Bedtime Stories movie stars Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson. Skeeter Bronson puts a lot in his hotel job and is surprised one day when he finds out that his boss Barry Nottingham (Richard Griffiths) promotes Kendall Duncan (Guy Pearce)for the job that he was sure was his. It was not from Skeeter Bronson having a sense of entitlement, rather it had to do more with how hard he was working and the original promise that Griffiths had made to this father Marty Bronson (Jonathan Pryce). Duncan is shown to be so crude and calculating to the point that he even dates the boss’s daughter Violet Nottingham (Teresa Palmer), but secretly carries a romantic torch for fellow hotel worker Aspen (Lucy Lawless). Skeeter’s friend Mickey (Russell Brand) tries to patiently explain to Skeeter Bronson why Duncan was chosen but Bronson appears to avoid taking Mickey’s suggestion (for certain reasons). Anyhow, in the meanwhile, Skeeter Bronson is also tasked with watching his niece Bobbi (Laura Kesling) and nephew Patrick (Jonathan Heit). This is because his sister Wendy Bronson (Courtney Cox) is looking to get a job in Arizona after hearing that she is going to be laid off. Fortunately, Wendy Bronson does have a good friend in Jill Hastings (Keri Russell). Anyhow, Skeeter Bronson also takes on the role of father figure as well because his sister also happens to be a single mother and he also cares to be a father figure influence in his niece and nephew’s life. Bronson’s life changes dramatically once he notices the power that his niece and nephew have with just telling their stories with their imaginations. The movie even implies why their storytelling is powerful when the quote in the movie is mentioned ‘Your Fun Is Only Limited by Your Imagination). There are some song snippets that play during the movie such as Fire by The Ohio Players,I’m On Fire by Bruce Springsteen, Disco Inferno by The Trammps, Eternal Flame by The Bangles, Rock Me Amadeus by Falco, and Don’t Stop Believing by Journey (towards the end of the movie).Of course, there are more actors and actresses featured, yet something tells me to save some plot info for those who have yet to see the movie.

Inappropriate
It’s supposed to be for kids, but there is a lot of cleavage and some sexual jokes, or just bad lessons taught, like Adam Sandler high-fiving his nephew for getting a kiss from a girl. Like he scored or something. 🙄 And also not the best lesson at the end of the movie. I really feel like they could have aimed higher and made a better movie with this concept.

One of my six year old son's favorite movies...
My son absolutely loves this movie. His favorite scene is when Bugsy is introduced and Adam Sandler's charcacter says "let me see them" (about the eyes) and exclaims "doh!!! Those eyes would look small on a cow... are those eye balls or bowliing balls." He laughs incessantly at that every time and repeats the line well into the next scene. The movie is fantastical, fun and funny. While a complete departure for Adam Sandler from his norm, he carries the movie well and children respond to his character in every one of his incarnations in the film. The two child stars are cute and brilliant in their portrayals. They truly seemed to enjoy Adam in this film and it shows in their performance.A warning to parents though; if you are not a story teller you may not want to show this movie to you children as they will want you to tell them bedtime stories so they can imagine making up stories like the ones in the film. My son, although we have read stories for bedtime since he was a baby, now once in a while will ask me to make up a story for him, which we happily do together. Story time has taken up a whole new meaning in our lives as a result and we spend many nights laughing and having fun at bedtime.I recommend this movie highly if you just want a fun experience to share with your child.

Bedtime Surprise
I am shocked if not embarrassed to report that this was a fun movie---great for the whole family---including my six year old boy who roared. Truthfully, my wife and I roared. I NEVER have been able to sit through one of Sandler's moronic, 1st-grade potty mouth movies---but this one was a perfect combination of his childish, low-brow comedy meets kids' movie. It was well written and put together very, very well! I was surprised to see it get ony 25% at Rotten Tomatoes (most everyone panned it.) What's odd about that is I am REALLY critical and dislike far, far more movies than any audience or critic. I'm fine with any movie (low brow to high brow) so long as it sticks to its own premise and concept. This one did. Judging from the basis of what this movie sets out to do, it does it, and it does it well. (I hope I don't regret this review...again, I can't believe I'm saying this...maybe I too was hexed by a bedtime dream come true.) BTW: If you don't have (or never had) kids...this probably is not a good watch. It's mostly an INSIDE laugh! I WISH Sandler would just sculpt his usual adult-movie nonsense into this venue--kids' movies! What a perfect fit!

Pleasantly Surprised
I love Disney films and had never heard of "Bedtime Stories". I'm glad I bought this DVD as the lead actor, Adam Sandler, can sometimes be a little too much for me. The only other film of his that I've enjoyed is Anger Management, but he doesn't disappoint here.Skeeter (Adam Sandler) is asked to babysit his sister's kids over a couple of evenings. The dayshift is taken by the sister's best friend. Skeeter is a little horrified to find that his sister hasn't got a TV and therefore his first night babysitting actually requires him to interact with his niece and nephew rather than plonk them in front of the screen. He decides to try his hand at telling a bedtimes story, the way his Dad used to tell him stories when he was little. Luckily he's a natural story teller although a little self-absorbed in his story telling the kids change his stories so their they're a lot more fun.Fun, imaginative film to watch with the whole family or even on your own. Filming covered wonderful sets and locations, a Greek ampitheatre; a medieval palace; the wild west - all lovely scenes and the acting was better than I thoughtt. There's the flitting between modern day, real scenes and ho they could be imagined in the bedtime stories - Motorbikes as horses and a woman as a mermaid.

Not Quite Top Marks But Still Worth A Watch.
Added this to our collection of home movies for those dull weekends or chilly long evenings and it does the job. If I'm honest, for me it didn't quite get out of first gear and the story/script seemed a wee bit unsure at times for a Disney family film but that said, I'm 40-something and this was really got for my 13 year old daughter and she loved it, especially the large eyed Guinea Pig!? So, if your looking for something to amuse the kids, this should do the job!

Happy Madison Productions At Its Very Best
I've just sat and watched this film with my son and wife and can say we all loved it, Adam Sandler is back to his very best. I think I can say it is the best feel good movie he has done since Big Daddy. You always know where you are with Sandler movie, there is no swearing (well nothing hard), no guns and no nudity just plain old fashioned fun. If you have kids they will love this film. I know you can read the synopsis if you want to know what the film is about so I won't go into that. The Blu-ray offers amazing quality and sound so would urge you to spend the few extra pounds to see it on Blu, but if you can't afford Blu then standard won't disappoint.Very funny film, very well put together story, great quality production. 5 Stars. Please get it.Don't let the title kid you into thinking this film is just for children it is hilarious for all ages.
