~ GALAGA/GALAXIAN Arcade 1UP "WalMart Exclusive".... don't be fooled by others ~
Okay, I basically grew up playing these "classics" like some of you reading this review. These 2 games in particular are in my top 10 Classic Arcade list, although I have quite a number of them.This machine is the SAME UNIT sold at your local retailer "Walmart" for $299.99, so don't be fooled into paying more than that anywhere. There are plenty of units now that we are gearing up for the "Christmas Holiday" season. I visited my own that I bought mine from and there were 5 units available.One thing that I looked for initially was the condition of the box itself before buying. If it looks all tore up and tape is skewed or ripped at corners, damage to the cardboard box, do not buy it. If it looks like it has been handled with some kind of care, like mine looked, then that is the one you should get if you decide to buy this unit.The instruction manual was WELL DONE and articulate with easy to read instructions on how to put this together.It took me about 2 hours to put together. All you need is some basic tools like screwdrivers. Everything else is provided in the box and the unboxing itself is fairly good.Take CAUTION and CARE in handling the side panels. with the artwork, etc. The artwork is NOT PROTECTED from scratching, scratches, or even wear if your hand comes into contact with the surface for a period of time. I am going to have to come up with some type of plexiglass layover for the playing panel with the joystick, etc.The artwork is beautiful and well done, however, like I said, the painting of the artwork is not protected. It will scratch or wear off quickly on the play panel if some kind of protective cover is not in place.The gameplay itself is beautiful! I have had no problems with either game so far. The joystick and buttons are good, but, the joystick seems to have a little too much space in the area where it is housed. There is no going up or down in either game, only side to side, left to right, etc. A "plexiglass layover" for the panel will solve that.All in all, a great game to have!! Everything was put together from the box, nothing of mine was missing in the box.Sound and screen are excellent. The game DOES KEEP HI SCORES if you do not unplug it from the wall.
