Home Birth On Your Own Terms: A How To Guide For Birthing Unassisted

I bought this book in 2019 and it is the best birth book I own. I’ve read it multiple times and it has got me through 2 successful births. It is very informative and easy to understand. It put my mind at ease and had me so excited and ready to take on labor and birth. If you can only get 1 birth book, make it this one! I can’t recommend this book enough. It is very useful for unassisted or assisted home birth, hospital birth or birth center. Even if you plan a hospital birth, you may not make it in time and it’s good to be prepared to give birth in the car lol. The knowledge in this book is valuable for any woman birthing anywhere. I would get this book for any of my friends or family who is expecting. Thank you Heather!

Thank you very, very much Heather Baker!My wife and I had our unassisted home birth, to our first child!!!We read two other books, including Spiritual midwifery, but, this by far is the best book! It guided us though the entire process, and I kept re-reading certain parts during labor, to look for clues. Especially during the transition phase of labor, where the book states that the mother may want to go to the hospital, but assures us that it’s totally normal and will be okay.I think hospitals have their place. If you are really sick and need help. But, that doesn’t apply to 99% of labors. God, or what ever you believe in, made a woman’s body perfectly to give birth, most of the time unassisted. The only thing I did for my wife, as a husband, is to re-assure her, and make her comfortable, by giving her food and cleaning up during and after.My wife gave birth to a healthy child, and she was also healthy after the birth. If you read and follow the book, there should be no tears or heremoging. Just make sure you have the herbs on hand just in case. Like Shephards Purse, to stop hemorrhage. Or, Castor oil, if you are overdue and would like to induce labor naturally.This by far is the most impoweing experience for the both of us. It also made my wife and I, bond, like never before.We are for ever greatful for this book, and the author! Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts!!!!Ps. If you decide to do this, don’t hesitate. It’s totally worth the struggle. The reward is priceless...

Last year when I got pregnant, I had an overwhelming desire to have a simple, natural, unmediated birth at home. Though I already have two children, both of their births were at a hospital with many interventions. 😔As I began researching birth options and openly talked with friends about the (radical) idea of having an unassisted birth 🙃, a friend advised me to GO AND READ THIS BOOK.😅🙌Though I had already read several home birth books and had done extensive online research, THIS BOOK completely changed the way I decided to give birth!!! 🙌💗🙌Due to so much of what I read and gleaned from these pages, I began to feel confident that I could truly give birth naturally, in my home, safely.This book covered countless topics that seemed impossible to find online or in other birthing books. The knowledge shared about potentially hemorrhaging, the baby getting stuck, examining the baby and placenta once it was birthed were just a few of the topics that I truly found invaluable!!!After reading this book, I felt extremely confident about having a free birth at home!!!On April 4th, I gave birth with my husband, two children, sister, two nieces and a friend surrounding me.It was an unbelievably beautiful and joyful experience. I cannot imagine ever giving birth in a different way.Since having Baby, I have thought many times that Heather, the author, deserve a portion of credit for how well my birth went. ☺️I truly appreciate how helpful, informative and encouraging this book was!Prior to reading this, I was hopeful but a bit apprehensive about free birthing. However, once I finished this book, that is SO LOADED with priceless information, I knew more than I could have ever imagined knowing about birth.I am truly grateful for this treasure of a book!

update: to say I have now bought this book 6x and I have gifted it to 4 friends and keep an extra copy on hand to share .......Knowledge is power! Even if you are planning a midwife attending your birth or a hospital birth I still recommend this book! As the medical field is getting less friendly to a natural approach to birthing it is time for us as woman to take our power back in the birthing space and be in control of what happens to our body. This book is an easy read and chalk full of information on what is a version of normal and what you should look out for. I had an unassisted home birth without this book due to some unfortunate events and yes the birth went well and I now have a toddler running around but not having information on the after care and what to look out for was stressful. I knew my body could give birth but it was the after care that I had very little information to go on and it made recovery a little more nerve racking and no matter how hard I searched online I couldn't find the information I was looking for unless I was willing to take actual midwifery classes which gets pretty expensive. THIS BOOK FILLED IN THE GAPS I WAS MISSING! I am now pregnant again and planning a free birth and I was so happy I stumbled onto this book by chance. It gave me the detailed knowledge without being too complicated on how to care for the baby and what to look out for in the mamma in those first few ours after delivery. It also provides a great list of herbs and natural approaches that stops complications from developing and so much more. If you are pregnant or planning to be so Please get this book!

I've purchased this book twice on hardcopy and also have on Audible. If nothing else, this book puts your racing thoughts at ease. Heather is also very obtainable. She makes herself available to contact and ask questions. Great author and human!!!

When I got pregnant I knew that I wanted a home birth for this one but felt like I knew nothing and had some fear around being unprepared. This book single-handedly took me from unsure and afraid to feeling equipped and empowered with nearly anything I could need to know. Heather is such an abundance of practical, hands on knowledge and experience and she does an excellent job at relaying that wisdom through this book. I'm feeling so ready and so excited for my birth.

This book is invaluable. It does such valuable work for motherhood today! Women have laboured and given birth since the beginning of life. But this has become a forgotten phenomenon. Medical intervention has taken the front seat. It claims to help but it harms more often than not. This book helps a woman take a stand against this predominant practice and empowers her to conquer the fear in a way seasoned with science and experience. This is not a book for everyone. Yet this is a much-needed and valuable book. The rare empathetic voice against abused motherhood. It is a book of empowerment. It is a book that wishes to stand by the side of women who are alone in their journey to motherhood. The author is a lady posterity will be thankful for - a beautiful mind and soul- powerful too- that wishes to stand by the side of women whom medical procedures have failed in their promise of grace, dignity and empathy.This work is so precious that even after buying the first edition I had to buy the second edition. It contains more detailed insights and information.The book is costly. I still had to buy it a second time. The kindle edition made it thankfully affordable. The collection of pictures make it more valuable.

If you’re planning a home birth or a freebirth, chances are that you will have some questions along the lines of ‘what if this happens’ and this book covers it all! I have freebirthed both of my children and they have been INCREDIBLE experiences. I read this book whilst pregnant with my second, and would have found it really helpful if I had it before my first. A wonderful wealth of knowledge that supports instinctual, physiological, beautiful, magical birth, on YOUR own terms, just as it should be.

I have bought several books on home birth, and this is a must have! It covers natural remedies for preparation of birth and during birth. Something I haven’t seen anywhere else and wouldn’t have been able to attain otherwise. ❤️ It is basically a guide to birth - before, during and after. It doesn’t downplay any situations/emergencies that could occur - making one aware of the possibilities. I have read it once in the beginning of my pregnancy. And am now having a second read to prepare for everything.

This book is thorough, informative, empowering, eye opening. I could still go on with praises. Whatever birth experience you are planning, you will benefit greatly from this book. Such a wealth of knowledge.
