VCR/DVD Combos are difficult to find now and I was happy to find a reasonably priced one to play my old VCR tapes and RECORD from my TV. HOWEVER, in order for the VCR to tape television shows you need to have someone install it who understands physics to figure out how the components work together or ask a nerdy teenager. You'll need extra wires that you'll need to get from a computer store. These wires are not expensive (about $3) but RadioShack or BestBuy don't have them. Once installed how you use the VCR is different than how you used them in the past which takes a little getting used to, but I am THRILLED to have mine. It works great!

WORKS! HOORAY!!!
At first I was frustrated with having to figure out what cables go to this but as it turned out I had cables from so many other VHS's and DVD players I didn't need anything new just long enough cables to connect the device to the TV, I'd go with 5-6 ft if you have a huge entertainment center. Finally I got it hooked up and it is so great to watch all the old VHS tapes we have of family and such. I ordered the VHS to DVD converter too, so I hope all goes well. All in all a good machine for the price!

Does what it has to do
Look I paid 84 bucks new and now price went up as I write this. It does what it is supposed to do a little complicated but simple things recording playback on VCR everything works. Well don't expect Hi definition stuff but for VCR it is just very fine. DVD does not record but the picture is pretty sharp. I agree with some reviewers that the remote needs magnifying glass to see the writing . Again for simple recording, and playback I never bother with all the other buttons on the remote. I' ve had it for 2 months and so far no problem and I use it a lot. Alittle noisy on the stop and rewind etc but so what ? For the money I am happy.

Works as advertised.
Well packaged but I would have liked to see FRAGILE label and directional arrow for UP. No problem with the product though, it works great.

I would not even give this to my Mother-In -Law
Well this was a big disappointment I purchased this as a gift and found out too late it did not function well in the DVD mode. The drive unit makes a disturbing noise and some DVDs will not play in this . It is like stop motion photo and it does not mater if it is a new DVD or older one . Also I purchased this for a elderly family member and remote controls buttons are so small that it is next to impossible to see what they are for . I did not know about the poor quality and the operating problems till my visit last weekend 02/06/2015 as my mother-in-law did not want to bother me or make me feel bad about buying a poor quality gift . So if anyone is looking for a combo video-dvd DO NOT LOOK at this Funai Corp. unit it is no fun at all .

What it does and doesn't do.
It does play DVD and VHS tapesIt records onto VHS tape not DVD discsIt does not let you record one channel and watch another - thatis the disappointing thing.Otherwise it works fine, but look at the box flap forhook up directions, it's clearer than the booklet. Also,I had a cable with yellow and white ends I had saved from whatever device,(hope this helps-one review here was real complicated)besides the one I already had on my old VCR, red, white, and yellow, that's all I needed. I have satellite TV so the tuner is that box for me. Then I followed the box directions to hook up. My DTV box has no component ports so followed the basic connection. The thing I was puzzled by was the private seller did not put the unit in a box-so the product was totally visible, so I'm glad no one stole it.I was confused by reviews that said people recorded or copied their VHS tapes to discs - still not sure it does that. (if you can't record to DVD how can you copy from VHS to DVD?)Anyway I had a lot of VHS tapes I still wanted to watch so that was the main reason I bought it.

Good for anyone still hosting a VHS and DVD collection
Straightforward equipment with very easy setup. The main challenge to remember is that the absolute newest TVs (primarily the smart TV models in 2014 - such as Sharp Aquos 65") do not always still have Audio/Video IN. Fortunately one of our other TVs is a relatively new, 40" LG that still had the legacy connectors. We still have a healthy offline collection of VHS tapes and DVDs even though we've largely migrated to acquiring new video content digitally.

Excellent ! The same as the Magnavox I previously had to replace.. As I am electronically stupid. it was a relief to just take the cables from the magnavox and insert them to the Funai. I still use the remote from the magnavox. This was replacing my daughters' unit that she has in her bedroom. She is mentally challenged and having to buy her a new unit and re-educate her in using it would have been a tremendous chore for me. I definitely would recommend this unit for anyone. It arrived earlier than expected which was also a pleasant and welcome surprise.
