Very good upper tier point and shoot with DSLR options.
This is really an incredible camera, they say when a device does everything it usually dosen't do anything well. This camera proves that statement false, it has plenty of automatic options for those that just what to turn it on and take a picture. It does that well and extremely quickly, under 2 seconds from off to focused and picture taken. But then you get into manual mode and you can cange apture size, ISO, and can increase the shutter to 15 full seconds allowing you to capture amazing low light photos at a very low ISO as long as you have a steady surface or tripod. This camer is great for someone like myself who is getting into the more artistic and advanced aspects of photography. It allows you to do things like light painting and get some very nice results. The super zoom is a very nice feature that allows you to go past the 24x optical zoom without the loss in quantity you get from digital zoom. Super zoom and digital zoom can be turned on and off independently in the options. Olympus also makes high end digital audio recorders and that PCM technology is included in this camera, so weather taking a video or anding audio to a still(another great feature) you can be assured you will get great High definition stereo sound. The number of things this camera can do and do well is so long i could wite a book. I would definitely recommend reading the manual to get the most out of this camera. But the beauty of it is if you dont want to get that deep into it you dont have to. The Intelligent auto mode works verg well, the sceen mode has an option for any situation and you could easily never look at the manual a be perfectly satisfied. For all the options its not intimidating, its completely up to you how far you want to go, but like many cameras that have lost of auto and sceen functions if you do decide to dig in deep you don't find yourself limited by the camera. The manual options are deep enough for even seasoned professionals. The 3 and 5 axis image stabilization is truly amazing and especially in video have to be seen to be believed. I'm OCD about research and spent almost a month looking at all the options before pulling the trigger and getting this camera. This is the only camera at this price point that gives you as many capabilities as this camera does. Its UHS-1 compatible so you will get the full speed out of UHS-1 SDHC cards. Its also Eye-Fi capable allowing you to add WiFi to the camera with a $30 WiFi enabled SD card. Unlike many cameras that dont come with WiFi adding the Eye-Fi cards usually gives you very limited capabilities. Not so with the SH-50 it has apps for Android and IOS that allow you to control all aspects of the camera. Use your phone as a view finder, to trigger the shutter, watch video as you recorded it all from your device. You can change settings and options, as well as sending the pictures and videos to you phone or tablet or uploading them to your cloud storage or favorite social media site. This is truly an incredible camera, if you have been thinking about it stop and just buy it, you truly wount find anything better at this price point, full stop. Olympus has a winner with the SH-50, and i have no doubt you will agree as well.

No good for sports photos.
This is a very good camera for basic photographic needs. It is easy to use and takes great pictures indoor and out. The zoom ratio is large and the optical image stabilizer generally works. Yet it is totally unfit for sports photos because it is very slow in focusing, in taking the shot after the button is pressed, and in recovering after a shot is taken. I have a real hard time taking photos of my son playing soccer.

Quality Camera!
First, to reiterate (and to answer a customer's question), the touch screen feature is not always on as it can be easily locked. I use the shutter button almost 100% of the time. I know three young adults who have photographic training, even on the professional level, and each of them comment on what a nice camera this is - feature-wise and quality-wise. I spent many hours researching cameras and this is the choice that suited me. I wanted more than the average point and shoot so I would get quality photos but I did not want a Digital SLR camera with features I know I would never use. This camera has many options from Automatic to Program to Manual and other useful modes, along with special effects modes. The video is very nice quality also. The camera comes with an instructional CD so you can really learn how to use all of its unique features without feeling overwhelmed. I appreciate the camera's anti-blur technology and this was a big selling point for me. I did buy an extra battery at my local electronics store so I have a back-up when I am traveling and taking a lot of photos. The camera feels substantial (not cheap) but it is small enough to fit into my camera pouch - a perfect size for travel. I chose the black color option and I am very satisfied with the camera's design. I finally found a camera that I really like and it is easy to use, producing great photos, plus it offers excellent camera options/functions/settings for expanding my skills and taking my photographs and videos to a higher standard and quality.

This is my second Olympus camera. It has good specifications however I'm somewhat disappointed with this camera. Picture and Video quality is good, however Pet Scene isn't much great; most of the photos are noisy even though subjects are sill. The build quality is good however it started having issues with Zoom, Camera freezes and the camera doesn't respond unless you take out battery.
