Really quite perfect (synthetic backing though)!
One of the reasons we bought this wool mattress pad is that my wife co-sleeps with the baby in her bed [safely]. By dint of the fact that the baby sleeps there throughout the night, there was always the inevitable spit-up or leaky diaper that occurred. Which entailed stripping the bed in the middle of the night, dabbing at the spots while trying to make sure the mattress didn't absorb the liquid, then replacing with a clean sheet. Not fun at 4am. Again. So we decided to get a waterproof mattress pad. But 99.9% of the waterproof ones are laminated with vinyl..which is a bad chemical for kids (or anyone) to be around, especially if you're a baby and you sleep right on it! We were at our wits' end because we didn't want any liquid being absorbed into the mattress and causing bacteria to grow, yet also did not want the baby to inhale chemicals as he slept. Thankfully, we happened upon this Snugfleece wool pad! It's naturally waterproof and helps wick moisture away; which was great being that young kids/babies sweat a LOT through their heads while they sleep. I can venture so far as to say that the pool of sweat my kid used to wake up in and spread on the sheet are less than half of what they used to be, maybe even 3/4. I'm serious. My wife really couldn't believe it!Another great thing about this pad is that even though it didn't seem so thick when we first took it out of the package (which by the way *is* clear vinyl-- 1) it doesn't let the wool breathe 2) is a no-no because of the chemicals it releases..y'know that smell when you open something in a vinyl package? That's the offgassing of the chemicals), once its on the bed it is cushy enough to notice a difference, yet not too cushy that it's a danger for a baby sleeping there who needs a firmer surface. It also keeps the baby ever-so-slightly warmer without us having to dress him in as many layers. My wife does not use a heavy blanket (or even a medium weight one) in order to keep the bed safe and the baby from getting tangled/stuck under it, so this is great that it helps regulate the temperature!Just to be aware, the backing isn't natural sheepskin; the wool is somehow embedded into a synthetic, slightly-plasticy-feeling cloth. Disappointing on that count, but still happy with the product.Overall, we are extremely happy we made this purchase as it has definitely made our lives easier knowing that the baby sleeps better and in turn, *we* sleep better. Would probably purchase again.

Can't live without it. Unfortunately smelled like a barn for a while.
I LOVE THIS THING AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.I recently moved to a new house and bought a memory foam mattress seeing all the wonderful reviews (I'd been living in fully furnished apartments and hotels for the past year and didn't have a bed anymore). However, the first night I tried sleeping in it I woke up covered in sweat. I'm not a particularly hot sleeper either. The next night was the same, and on the third day of owning my memory foam mattress I did tons of research on how to make it usable. I was desperate for a good nights sleep. This mattress topper doesn't make my bed softer, but it does make it dissipate heat so I don't feel like I'm sleeping in hell. There was, unfortunately a major downside. This mattress smelled like a barnyard when I first got it. My room mate said he couldn't really smell much, but to me it reeked of new wool socks (lanolin) and wet dog. I immediately washed it twice and it didn't really get rid of the smell. Then I let it air out outside for a day, and then inside for another day. That helped, but didn't get rid of the smell entirely. I could still smell it when I was in bed very strongly.I've had it on for a week now, and the smell definitely seems to have dissipated a lot. I don't notice it unless I put my face directly in contact with my sheets. With all that said, it made my bed actually usable! Without this mattress topper I was going to have to return my recently purchased mattress. There was a snowballs chance in hell of me getting a full nights sleep before I put this wool topper on, which is incidentally exactly how I felt sleeping on a memory foam mattress without it.

LOVE these SnugSoft wool mattress covers
LOVE these SnugSoft wool mattress covers!!! This is the second one I have purchased. This one is a bit "thinner" than the first one I bought, PLUS my son, who is about 285 pounds, is using it and it doesn't seem to be holding up like the fuller one I purchased for my bed. I should have bought the fuller one as this one is now really flat and matted. But, he loves sleeping on it and doesn't have any complaints. I just have to work harder taking care of this "thinner" one.I originally bought mine because I was sleeping on a memory foam (plastic) mattress and was dying from the heat at night! I would wake up just soaked from sweat. I couldn't afford a new mattress at the time, so I bought the wool mattress cover in hopes that it would help regulate the heat. And it did! It helped so much, it was like night and day! I did buy a new mattress, a traditional mattress, and put this wool cover on it and my sleep is perfect now.I have a "wool cycle" on my washing machine so about every 3 or 4 months I launder these on the "wool" cycle using Woolite detergent. I then air dry them over some dining room chairs for a day or so, and sometimes use a hairbrush to re-fluff the material.Highly recommend these wool mattress covers.

Consistent Temperature with Wool
I bought this after reading several reviews that said it helped in keeping the sheets cooler. It doesn't keep the sheets cool at all. BUT. What it actually does is keep the temperature consistent when you are sleeping. The effect is subtle. What I notice is that I'm not constantly moving during the night trying to find a cool spot anymore because my body temperature stays consistent during the night. I'm not hot, then cold, then hot again. I bought it just about the end of summer but we were still having very warm nights. I found that I wasn't turning the AC down as much and was able to get by with a fan to move the air in the room. Now we are having some very chilly nights (which is fine by me) and I have added a light blanket and I still don't have to worry about being hot then cold during the night. The pad does not add much in the way of extra padding but it does help in creating a smooth surface and does not shift under the sheets. It's easy to put on and take off and I just spray it with some freshener and use the hand vacuum occasionally. I'm going to look for a pillow cover to see if I get the same effect!
