VS-25BM No need to fumble for your keys anymore. The Viking VS-25BM has a quick-sensing biometric reader, with an accuracy that is unmatched, and makes keys a thing of the past. While low quality safes can take multiple seconds to read fingerprints, the Viking VS-25BM does it in less than 1 second. Other biometric safes are made with “locker level" material that can easily be preyed open. Viking safes are engineered to stave off both prying and professional picking. The fingerprint programming takes seconds to complete and is so easy a child can do it. The Viking VS-25BM safe is also the best looking in the market. Not needed to open safe. Your average locksmith is not going to be able to replicate these keys so no need to worry about an unauthorized person making copies. Decent, but a few flaws
These types of small pistol safes all similar. I did extensive research on all the biometric ones like gunvaults, barska, Viking, and stack ons. I ended up getting this one because I wanted a safe that had both an electronic lock and a override key because I hate being dependent on an electronic system that could fail one way or another. Also like all the small pistol safes they are mostly for kids and just a minor security wall. But anyone who has time and determination WILL get into this safe. I really wanted a quality pistol safe like a Fort Knox safe but they run about 300$ so I settle for this one. Here is the run down.Pros:Has both electronic and key lock, unlike gunvaults that just have electronic combo locks.Comes with bolts to secure it to either wall or floor.Fingerprint scanner works good as long as you scan in each finger about ten times from all angles.Cross lock for key hole instead of waifer or tubular locks, which are easier to pick.Cons:LOUD, there is no silent mode on the fingerprint scan and it is very loud. It beeps several times and if you are actually in a situation where someone is in the house you will let them know wherever you are in the house immediately. And I almost returned it just because of this, most other small safes have a silent mode.Lightweight and if you don't bolt it down someone could easily take it and open it at another location.I wish the holes in the back were maybe a little bigger so I could cable lock it to something, but I am going to drill out bigger holes and put a good Cable lock on it to secure it to something.Other than that this safe is a lot like most other small pistol safes, if you want to spend another $150 or so get a Fort Knox safe or something with a dial lock, or a push button combo lock. I think the idea of electronic locks is a waste and there is no real benefit over a combo lock. You can easily put in a 6 button combo nation in t he same time as the finger print scanner. And you don't. Have to rely on electronics failing or loud beeps alerting someone. And you know it will work every time as long as you punch it in right.

Decent, can't say it's necessarily better than others
This biometric safe is decent and I guess pretty good for the money. Still...The fingerprint scanner: a little finicky. It may be because of some calluses I have on my guitar fingers, but I seem to have a rather high rejection rate despite having my main finger memory scanned in 15 positions. I am successful on first attempt about 75-80% of the time, and successful within 2 attempts 99% of the time. My wife with smoother fingers seems to be successful practically always on the first try. We have never had a successful unauthorized open (though we have only been able to test that with our other fingers). It would have been nice to have a finger tip stopper or something so the depth of placement of our finger is not so varied. It can scan and open as quick as 3 seconds and as long as 5 seconds. If it doesn't open in 5, you know it's going to reject your print.Noise: the sound cannot be deactivated, but all the beeps are rather quiet. There is a single beep when you press the main button to start the scan, and if successful, a pleasant chime like sound as the door opens. If unsuccessful, it's a quick 3 beeps in succession.Key: 2 backup keys are provided and work fine. It is somewhat long and sharp and I would not really want to carry it around with me in my pocket on my keychain. On the other hand, its shape probably allows for it to be used as a phillips screwdriver! The safe: more or less sturday - definitely needs to be bolted down otherwise can easily be carried out and I imagine could be bashed in with a few hits with a sledgehammer. There is no extra shelf included. The foam lining for the bottom is removable but very thin and cheap quality, will probably tear after moderate use. There is enough room for 1000 rounds, my pistol, several extra clips. However, it is too small for even my 13" Macbook Air.I was told by several sources that this is made in the U.S., an important factor for me. However, it comes in a white box which is unlabelled and the instructions make you think it was written by someone from an Asian country.
