TALAGH
This Finders Keepers Records produced disc introduced me to the Iranian singer Googoosh. That's fifty years too late, but still better than never. This is a great pop singer. It's all sung in Farsi (I think), and replete with western sounding arrangements and middle-eastern rhythms. It all has a very sixties and seventies flavor. I have never seen any Iranian movies from that period but I imagine this is what the soundtrack of those films could be like. Googoosh has a great voice. She was and still is a superstar in the middle-east and deserves to be better known in the west. Since music is a universally understood language, knowledge of Farsi is not required! I have virtually no idea what she is singing about, but the way she sings tells me all I need to know. standout tunes on this disc for me are: Digeh Geryeh Delo Va Nemikoneh (with truly impressive singing), Mano Tou, and the funk infused Talagh. I read that Kanye West sampled Talagh for a song called Feedback. I haven't heard that version yet. Great compilation this!

Iranian Rock Gem
Googoosh was the voice of a lost generation in Iranian music. After the fall of the Shah in '79, Iranian music went underground in the places where people still played music. This album is a throwback to a forward looking Iran that blended the Traditional sounds of Persia with the growing Western rock n' roll influence that was prevalent throughout the Middle East at the time. This album is amazing and B-Music never fails in delivering amazing content to an audience, like me, who didn't even know what we were missing.I got this album on Vinyl with the intention of doing a world music night somewhere around town but have been pretty selfish, just digging it at home. I definitely recommend this album if you're into somewhat related genres such as Anatolian Rock, Israeli Psychedelic music from the 60s or, just a fan of Iranian Rock from the time.

Googoosh is an Iranian goddess.
Googoosh is probably the best-known Iranian female pop star from the 1970s, before the Iranian revolution in 1979 (she now lives in the West). This is a very good collection (although I do not own this particular title, I have several of her other recordings and these are many of her famous recordings from the period). One of the greatest and most beloved singers of the world, but I would start with a Googoosh classic called Pol for some of her best work on one CD.

If you love pop music, try something different and listen to this amazing album by an amazing singer, you won't be disappointed
Finders Keepers follow up their instant classic 'Pomegranates' compilation from 2010 with a whole album dedicated to the mighty Googoosh. In Iran in the 1970's, Googoosh was a legend, she was the voice of a country until political change forced what was a liberated society into the closed society it still is today.Women were not allowed to sing, Googoosh's music along with many other musicians were forbidden and destroyed. It wasn't until about 20 years later that Googoosh decided to leave the country and find permanent residence in Los Angeles. Original copies of her music were hard to find since the political upheaval as so much was destroyed, but as ever those boys at Finders Keepers have unearthed some gems.Googoosh reflected an Iranian society which for many years in the 60's and 70's gradually liberated into all forms of expression, her music mirrored the popular music of the west, in particular jazz, bossa, latin funk and early disco. The opening song 'Shekayat' is a classy opener, lush orchestrations create a sultry mood for Googoosh to sing her heart out. Unimagineable as it sounds, Googoosh then performs a disco number with 'Nimeyeh Gomshodeyeh Man'. 'Pishkesh' is a Persian pop song that floats along beautifully, until the highlight of the album sweeps you off your feet. As soon as i started to listen to 'Ma behem nemiresim' i was stunned into silence, a beautiful string arrangement accompanies Googoosh's sublime voice, singing the saddest love song you could possibly imagine. Two of my favourite tracks on 'Pomegranates' reappear on this album, 'Talagh' and 'Bemoun ta Bemounam' will put anyone into a good mood. I'm a sucker for the slower songs on this album, 'Digeh Geryeh Delo Va Nemikoneh' is another fine example, Googoosh really lets herself go and sings a song full of anguish and longing. There just isn't a bad song on this album.Finders Keepers have done a terrific job in mixing this album, the many varied styles of music on show all fall into place with the same grace as Googoosh sings. This self titled album is yet another classic from one of the finest labels in the world. If you love pop music, try something different and listen to this amazing album by an amazing singer, you won't be disappointed.

Danke, Finders Keepers!
