Tula

Jurgis Kunčinas's Tula is a marvelous and magical book, functioning not only as a particularly subtle and beautiful love story, but as a glimpse into Soviet Lithuanian life as background. The writing and the translation by prize winning Elizabeth Novickas are both poetic and realistic at the same time. The has been voted as most favorite by Lithuanians for many years and is a delight to read, without some of the sadness and tragedy that many books of the period had. Recommend it highly.
