Arthur's Halloween: An Arthur Adventure

I remember purchasing this book as a small child from the book fair. I loved it then and I love it now. It still encompasses all the things I love about Halloween!

I recently purchased this book for my nephew, because I remember reading the Weekly Reader version when I was a kid. I was happy to see that the interior illustrations are the same as the original, only the cover art has been changed.The artwork is really nice and is the best part of this book, in my opinion. It also has some good messages about not being afraid of things you don't understand and not making assumptions about people. It might not have the best stranger danger advice, however, as the protagonist enters a stranger's home while trick or treating, but to be fair, the protagonist is also a talking anteater, so...Overall, it's a really cute Halloween story with cool artwork.

Some scribbles and tears but they don’t really interrupt the story itself. And for the price I don’t care. At least the tear was covered with tape.

Arthur learns things are not always as they seem. He overcame his fear of a house that looked spooky to save his sister. What he finds is a woman who needs help.

This book is a great addition to our Halloween books. My grandsons, ages 6 & 4, listen to it over and over. The clarity of the CD is excellent and the story is very helpful if your little ones have some fright about Halloween and going trick-or-treating. Arthur is a character that my grandsons could relate to because of his show on PBS, so they were excited about listening to the book. I did have a talk with them about going into strangers homes, however, especially without their parents permission. The storyline gave me an opportunity to discuss this situation with them again. It also showed how we can be helpful to our neighbors around us.

This book is a great option to purchase for your children to bring the nostalgia into parenting! My daughter is 8 months old so I did find this read a little complex for her but she loved the pictures. Just be careful when reading these to little ones, to avoid paper-cuts and the sharp corners! I would definitely recommend for a slightly older age group.
