this is a really nice radio!
this is a really nice radio, its easy to use but there are many extra features I haven't learned to use yet. the manual explains how to engage or disengage the features but the manual doesn't explain what the features are used for. I wish the manual was more descriptive for 1st time users. This is my first private purchased radio and even as a ex Army radio operator (RTO) it's a lot to take in compared to the old PRC-77 radios we had back in the early 90s .. its way more complicated and versatile than the old PRC-77, outs out more wattage and much much smaller and lighter. It's much smaller than I expected like a old flip phone size. The build quality is nice, I wouldn't say milspec but way good enough for law enforcement type duty and civilian use.

Not DMR radio, but GREAT RADIO for a beginner ham.
Don't get confused, THIS IS _NOT_ A DMR RADIO!!! However! Excellent radio, and really fun to have 9 bands to listen to, and transmit on most. The best is the non-transmittable Airband. Also, the screen is favorable to using the low light due to backlight. and the kit comes with the USB cable for programming which also works on the Baofeng and possibly others which use the mic and speaker port for the data cable.

It's a good radio! Exceeded expectations.
The menus are a little hard setting up via the keypad if you're new but with the software it's a breeze. YouTube guy has a vid on setting up the software. I figured it out, you can too. Once you learn the menus on the HT itself it's allright as well. Got my technician liscense & got on the Colorado Connections repeater system. Closest to me is about 5 miles on Cheyenne Mtn. The folks were blown away at how good it sounds. Waay better than a Bfang etc. I've run a Signal Stick & the super long Abree antennas on it. Both rx & tx nicely for a HT. I also grabbed the 3200 battery which lasts a long time. Fyi get another belt clip. I almost wish I got the orange uv9d mate (same radio but higher power) but so far this thing is doing the do. No real regrets & as my first radio I'm having a blast.

No help from Wouxon
Got it home, fired up Chirp and loaded all the SAT frequencies into it. Tried to use it, only 2 channels available. Reset rig, reuploaded freq (several times) but still only 2 stations. Contacted Amazon's excellent tech support but they could not help me. Amazon support gave me an email to contact Wouxon so I sent and email describing the problem along with screen shots of all the settings. Well over a week and no contact so Amazon refunded my money and I sent the rig back. A week after that someone from Wouxon emailed me and said they never heard of Chirp and did not recommend using it on their radios. I ignored it because Amazon refunded my money once the radio arrived back. These are supposed to be good radios for satellite work, and they probably are if you can get the channel selector to work.

Perfectly Adequate
This is my first HAM "handy talkie/walkie talkie". I didn't want to start with a BaoFeng and then wish I had ponied up for different features/more mid-grade handy after the fact.Came with everything I needed to program and use to start. The hardest part of this whole ordeal was getting the driver installed correctly so that the cable would work for programming. When in doubt, uninstall from device manger and start over with the download and install of the driver.. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS CORRECTLY. That's where I think I may have went wrong..or maybe not..but a second time was the charm. Some people mention issues with the COM port. I looked into that for myself, but just had to reinstall the driver properly for me.

Great price for a feature packed radio
Can't beat it. Dual VFO's, Dual watch. Awesome value and powerful for what it is. Great for HAMs getting into the hobby and need something inexpensive to start off with. Comes with programming cable. Works with Chirp!

Great radio but not so great learning curve if coming off a BF
Great multi-band receiver. Compared to the BF UV-5R and BTech GMRS-V1 this unit is difficult to program even with their "CHIRP" software. It is a great proprietary radio if it was your first. But you have to re-learn everything about HAM/GMRS to bring it up to speed if you started with BF. Frustrating and wish to return.
