Does this come with the piece you attach to the camera?

"The piece you attach to the camera" is called a plate and is always sold separately. This is the case with the Acratech GP ballhead. You need to purchase a plate from Acratech website or through a reseller.

Does this work also for video?

I use mine every day for studio work. Worth each and every penny. GREAT product. If you're needing to secure a video cam without it moving at all....It'll work extremely well. If you're looking for something to move and pan with, this isn't for you.

How does this attach to the tripod? Do I need to look for a tripod with a specific type of attachment?

The ball head is screwed to the tripod, it comes with an adaptor if needed. Easy and simple.

Will I be able to use my L-bracket on it.

Which L-bracket? The Orion 5052 bracket has a 1/4-20 screw so the Acratech would need the "hole converter" insert to make the screwhole smaller. These are easy to find.
